Foxwoods!

As some are aware, I now live only a few miles from the Casino..

Made a visit last night with my daughter, her man and the wife.  It was about what I expected.  The place has been open for 24 years and even though I've lived within an hours drive for years, this was my first visit.

Big place, lots of people (most who probably shouldn't be there), WAY too much smoke and a maze of walkways to draw you deeper into the place and spend your money.

It was a good time, went in with 50 bucks to lose and came home with 70 bucks to the good.  My only mistake was buying a round of drinks from the bar rather than wait for the free drinks from the slots waitress..  A draft beer, Chablis and a single malt scotch was $30.00.  OUCH!

I'm not a gambler but it was fun for a couple of hours.  Maybe a good dinner place or a show in the future.

Minus the 30 for the booze....net gain 40 bucks!

About two seats away from my wife some kid hit for 1100 bucks on a three dollar bet.

When I moved back East I stopped in Winnamucca Nevada for a bit, played the $ .25 slots and won nothing, last change in my pocket was a nickle so I dropped it in the nickle machine.
Hit the Jackpot for about $100 in nickles, that was 10 years ago and I think I still have some of those da*med nickles  ;D

No coinage anymore.  You stuff in paper currency and they issue a payment voucher for any balance or winnings from the machine.  Print out the voucher and stuff it into another slot machine and keep on going.

You can play slots from 1 cent to 100 bucks a bet depending on the machine.  We started on the 25 cent machines where I was up about 70 bucks myself.  Then I went to the dollar machine and was betting two or three bucks a pop.  Never got higher than about 80 bucks and quit when my kid went bust.  I got down to 1 dollar and made one last bet, hit for a twenty and gave it to her.  She quit after she got me back to 70 that I turned into 40 and quit myself.

The wife did about the same with her 25 bucks.

Went to Vegas a few years back for corporate training (? ? ? ? ), stayed at Harrah's, a real blue-collar joint. You walk off the elevators from your rooms (nothing special BTW) and are immediately assaulted by the sheer din of the electronics and the smoke. In the whole place, they had maybe a dozen tables for card games and roulette. And the card games were junk games, not 5-card stud, but Texas Hold'em and crap like that. No shows either that I found, although they were building a Toby Keith BBQ place - due to open the day after I left!  >:(

Not a big fan of casinos myself, don't see much use in them.
