Obama likely to focus on deficit in next 2 years

WASHINGTON – Preparing for political life after a bruising election, President Barack Obama will put greater emphasis on fiscal discipline, a nod to a nation sick of spending and to a Congress poised to become more Republican, conservative and determined to stop him.

He is already giving clues about how he will govern in the last two years of his term.

Obama will try to make gains on deficit reduction, education and energy. He will enforce his health care and financial overhauls and try to protect them from repeal should Republicans win control of Capitol Hill. He will use executive authority when blocked by Congress, and steel for scrutiny and investigations if the GOP is in charge.
------------------------------------
The White House refuses to talk about how the president will have to adjust his style or goals if power in Congress tilts right, for fear of undermining what Obama is still campaigning hard to do: keeping Democrats in power. There is no conceding as Obama recruits voters and rallies supporters all the way to Nov. 2.

Yet if polls and analysts are on target, Republicans are poised to win big, possibly taking control of the House and gaining seats in the Senate, where Obama's party already lacks the votes to overcome bill-killing delay tactics. Obama probably will operate in an environment with even fewer moderate Republicans.

The president has signaled that at the start of the new year, he will speak more directly to the country about the financial choices ahead. "If we're going to get serious about the deficit, then we're going to have to look at everything: entitlements, defense spending, revenues. ... And that's going to be a tough conversation," he said.

I like that, "If".....that speaks volumes.   ::)

This article, along with many stories I have heard lately, lead to two conclusions:

1.  He is running scared and preparing for a shift of power;

2.  He is trying to lull all non-blue voters into a sense of security and apathy, so we will not make an effort to go out and vote next week.

I feel there is a possibly a chance of a power shift, but I also fear the MSM and Pres. BHO's game of lulling us to sleep.

My understanding is that the Defense budget is part of the constitution. That we spend a mandatory 20% on national defense. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if this is correct there is not much he can do there. That just leaves entitlement spending to cut.... ::)

Yes BHO it will be a tough conversation to have with everyone who voted for you.

Just read a piece that reported that "federalizing" private retirement funds; 402k and IRA funds would be diverted to the SS fund...and from there to where ever they want to spend the money.

I would have said that this proposal was laughable before I saw how Obamacare was shoved down the countries throats, so I now tend to thing anything might be possible.

Would be a way to "generate" deficit reducing cash flow.

Tax increases Jan. 1, 2011....Possible mortgage interest and tax deductions, as well as, dependent deductions, possibly GONE...

That's BHO's deficit plan, taxes go up, means more revenue....for them to keep spending...

That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

Actually, there is a 3rd possibility. He has virtually destroyed the US as an economic super-power, devastated the US dollar, and transferred huge sums of wealth from many of us to foreigners, unions and the uber-wealthy.

Now comes part 2. This may be the most devious political ploy I've ever seen.
Plan A - win the midterms, and what the hell, keep going.
Plan B - lose the midterms, and simply dismantle the remaining wealth of the lower and middle classes so there is no way in hell this country can be rebuilt in our lifetimes. It's all for the children, you know? We have to pay for this massive deficit - and pay no attention to those who would tell you I (bho - The Won) caused the massive deficit that I am now trying to "fix" by making it worse.

The only thing that would prevent the rebuilding of America is the citizens, We have to many "citizens of the world".

Form all this I get this image:

The actions of BHO and his predecessors have resulted with US standing with a pistol pointed at the side of our heads and being told that because of past agreements and promises made that we must pull the trigger because it is the "correct" thing to do.

Hopefully enough of US will have the courage, ability and will to use that pistol to get out of the situation.
