BEER BREAD!!!

this was posted by Haz recently on another recipe thread. here it is in it's own thread for those of you that want to look for it
Quote
3 cups of flower (all purpose)
1 tbsp of Baking Soda
1 tbsp of salt
2-3 tbsp spoons sugar (light or dark)
12 oz of beer (warm)  We (Deepwater and I) used the 'dregs' from the bucket of homebrew we were bottling. FANTASTIC!

bake at 375 for about 55 minutes

Also you can do things like add some Italian seasoning to the mix and or sprinkle on top before baking.  Experiment!
Bread is very forgiving. try some spice, in it, on it, whatever.... it's good!
we put some sea salt (just a touch) on the top before baking. mMMMMMM yummmmmm  enjoy...

Warning: Contains Bread Porn!

Here's my first attempt:

I added some ground white pepper, garlic powder and onion powder them just 'tumped' it onto a baking sheet and gave it an egg wash and sprinkled with kosher salt, I found it only needed about 40 mins. in the oven.

It has a good, if a little 'cakey', texture when using all-purpose unbleached flour.

Sure tastes good with a little butter and some of God's favourite spread  :D

Best Wishes, Mike.

if you punch it down and knead it, the texture is much smoother, also helps if you use a mold. yum.

We tried the following version last night and it turned out really well.

Quote
3 Cups of sifted self-rising flour ------- SIFTING IS CRITICAL
1/4 Cup of Sugar
1 Beer - any type
1/4 to 1/2 cup of butter -- more or less depends on how buttery you want it

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Mix dry ingredients and beer.

Pour into a greased loaf pan.

Pour melted butter over mixture.

Bake 1 hour, remove from pan and cool for at least 15 minutes.

*This recipe makes a very hearty bread with a crunchy, buttery crust. If you prefer a softer crust (like a traditional bread) mix the butter into the batter instead of pouring it over the top.

**Sifting flour for bread recipes is a must-do.
Most people just scoop the 1 cup measure in the flour canister and level it off. That compacts the flour and will turn your bread into a "hard biscuit" as some have described. That's because they aren't sifting their flour! If you do not have a sifter, use a spoon to spoon the flour into the 1 cup measure. Try it once the "correct" way and you will see an amazing difference in the end product.

It reminds me of the texture and flavor of Red Lobster's biscuits, just without the cheese....Next time we plan to try adding garlic powder and mix in shredded cheddar cheese to see how that works.

Wow, 1 C. sugar is quite a bit different than the other recipe. Not saying I won't try it though.  ;D

Good catch....... I mis-typed....... I was in a hurry and typing off the top of my noggin........ it is supposed to be 1/4 Cup of sugar.

Thanks for noticing, and it has been corrected.  8)  8)
