The px4 storm .40
« on: February 18, 2008, 02:51:22 PM »
I am going to purchase a beretta px4 tomarrow, any opinions before then would be great!  I know some of you dont like the rotating bolt, but I have heard good things.  We will see, and I will get back to you all after the break in session!!!

I did like the feel/grip of the PX4 when I shot one when they were first introduced.  The grip felt good but the trigger was a bit different.  I usually shoot a Glock and I had the D series DAO for direct comparison.  It has the same trigger group as the standard F DA/SA model so it "clicked" where it should have been in SA mode, which is teh same spot as the reset on the Glock.  When I hit the trigger again it didn't do anything.  Letting teh trigger completely reset it shot every time.  Just a bit of "memory reset" and it would have been fine.

I didn't get the PX4 armorer class but did do the Cougar that it is based on and basic field stripping can be tricky the first few times but isn't impossible.  Detail disassembly on the other hand should only be done by a trained Armorer/gunsmith as there are a few gotchas that result in parts flying everywhere never to be seen again.

That rotating bolt, is that similar to the roller locking on a G3 ? does it use a fluted chamber like the G3 ?

LOVE IT!!!  Ok so I shot 200 rounds of cheap 180g Blazer fmjs, not one hiccup!  Very smooth and tight pistol.  Didn't do alot of slow firing, I like to do at least a 200 round break in.  The sights were easy to find every time I brought the gun up.  Shooting 5 inch groups at 10-15 yards as fast as I could.  Recoil was alot less than expected, felt great in the hand.  Clean up was a sinch,  for the ammo I was using I expected much worse.  Comes apart just like a Glock.  I am recomending this gun to my cousin as I right this.  For $500 I am very happy.  Hell for $800 I would be happy.  I do have one consern,  it looks like a piece of the polymer frame near the hammer where it meets the slide broke off.  Not sure, I have examined it closely and I'm not sure if was there to begin with.  I will take a look at any photos I can find and get back to you.
Big plus is the manual decocker(very nice feature)

I just looked at the photos on the PX4 site and there was nothing there to begin with, just looked like there might have been.  Sorry for the scare folks!!!!

Federal Tactical HST. Discovered the cartridge with .40. I shot some of the 180gr. loads into a five gallon bucket of water and found it had expanded to .86" caliber, and it stayed in the bucket! I have mostly fired .45ACP, but was highly impressed with the heavy .40 as well. Check out Federal's website.....

oh, I have had trouble locating it at times, but I found it was worth it.(only two locations in state so far)
