So we're looking at a 5-5/16" black and about a 2-1/2" group at 25 yards?

I'll take that, any day of the week!

Buy a Glock and shoot in the GSSF matches and maybe win another Glock.

Good shooting

FQ:  No offense.  I know it's only a so-so target.  Right place, right time.

FQ and Tom:  It was a Challanger!   The range rental gun.  But I don't think I'll buy it.   I've got a Buckmark which I can shoot as well or better.

Timothy:   Yes a B-16.   (I didn't want to use too much bandwidth, is why the picture is small)

HazCat:  I'm thinking of the optics route.

Everyone:   Having a Glock would allow me into the GSSF match.   For goodness sakes they're a local company.  (same county even). And as M58 said,  you can always trade a Glock.

My real priority is two fold, an FN FAL and a 6.5mm bolt action capable of sub-moa.   Both of these purchases required more $ than my gift certificate, which I don't have right now.

I inquired about using the money for "instructor" training, but the range doesn't offer "instructor" classes.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Have you tried a Shmidt - Rubin K-31 ? It's 7.5 Swiss but uberaccurate.

I looked at the K31.  One of the TV shows ran a piece on it recently.   You know, I'm tempted with all the various "old" rifles that we talk about on here.   Tempted.  But that's really not in the plans.  They're all neat and I could get any number of them, such as a Nagant with ammo real cheap....but....I got other things.    There are all sorts of EOTWAWKI purchases I could make, but I'm into "what-do-I-really-need-and-would-use-right-now" mode.

For rifles, my priority is a 6.5mm - varmint.......very accurate with suppressor.  Second but way down the list would be a 308, an FN FAL over an M1A.  Trouble is I have no extra money, so I have to stay close to $500 for now.

I'm happy with my current crop of pistols though I might like to trade my P99AS for a QA.

On one hand, I hate to waste the "windfall" and not get a gun, but on the other hand my need for optics and "leather" and other accessories is far greater.

Maybe a shotgun!   Maybe a real tactical shotgun!    Or maybe a really good trap/skeet one.   I'll call my friend Bob, who's really "into" trap/skeet and see what he says.

Maybe you can get more bullets and brass.

Swedish Mausers are 6.5, and extremely accurate, ask m25... If bolt's not the game, the 6.5's AR's are a pricey item. Perhaps layaway? with your winnings?

Optics and accessories to use with what you have is always a viable option.

Soon, being a pro and all, you'll get sponsors, than have all the stuff you want... 8)

At least ammo, for what you already have. ;)

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

All 500 bucks will buy you is an entry level skeet/trap gun at best.  Stoeger maybe, Hungarian or Turkish made I think, kinda heavy for target work.  There might be a few others.

I've been interested for a while but the price of a good skeet gun rises sharply when you look at American made guns.  I'm interested in nothing else at this point.

I use my 870 Wingmaster Pump for trap and skeet, it has a short barrel and I do alright with it.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but I need to ask Tim "How short is short on his shotgun barrel"
Is 18 1/2 inches long enough to get the (2 3/4 ) shot out to the clay ?
