SBR Full auto?
« on: November 14, 2010, 03:34:43 PM »
I've been wondering about this for awhile. Can you own a rifle that is both short barreled and full auto or is this illegal under the NFA? Just as a for instance I’m talking about submachine gun or a personal defense rifle?

Barrel length may vary from state to state, but unless you have a Class 3 License, full auto will get you a quick trip to prison if caught.

Check your state reg's.

If it's full auto I don't think barrel length matters.

State laws on Possession vary, Under Federal law if you are willing to pay you can have anything, or combination of things you want short of a nuke.

If you ask the BATFE agents nicely - after they have kicked in your door and have you and the family handcuffed and proned out on the driveway - I'm sure one will fill you in.   :(

You need a type III for both. An SBR and FA. Might as well throw a suppressor on it while you're at it. Go for the tri-fecta, all it takes is another tax stamp. ;D Obviously, the FA can't have been made after 1986 >:(/  Good luck AND check your local laws and POLICIES. My local Sheriff won't approve any tye III permits period. I'm not even sure a lawsuit, if you had the money and were that motivated, could force him. Check first so you don't waste time and money. Good Luck.

Plus, remember, the family (lawyer) of the bad guy you dispatch with a SBR or FA firearm, will have a field day making you some kind of Bible clinging, Right wing militia member hell bent on killing someone.

(Even if they kick in your door for a home invasion won't matter)....

Get a .45 and a 12 guage. same result, and easier to defend. A standard AR, with frangible ammo will even work for SD.

Also, what state are you in? Texas works, CT, MD, CA, NY, probably won't....

No one said anything about using it for home defense ?
Geez, don't you people think before posting ? If there were a problem having a "Short barreled" FA weapon then all those Thompsons with 10 inch barrels, would be illegal    ::)
