As a teenager, I worked at a trap/skeet range. I had a Mossy 600 with the adjustable choke. Brand new it was $99 at Gemco. I constantly out shot the guys that showed up with $2-5k guns. Guys would show up with everything from custom made o/u's to SPAS 12's to side by side .410's.

While these kind of stories are always entertaining to hear and read about, it should be noted that if you attend any of the larger ATA Registered Trap Shoots, you will find that all of the top shooters who compete at or near the top, shoot the more expensive Trap guns. There is a very good reason for that.  Bill T.

Kim Rhode is arguably the best clay target shooter on the planet at this time. She is the only person to ever win triple Olympic Gold in the sport.  Bill T.

While that is true, I thought we were talking about having fun doing something we enjoy, with shotguns that are generally going to be used for more than just bustin clays. Folks who get into competition heavily generally have guns, cars, etc. that are dedicated to the competition.

By the way the video I mentioned earlier is still available

Expensive "TRAP" guns?  THAT is my problem. All this time I've been doing it wrong. I went out and bought a Baikal over/under because I thought they said I needed a "CRAP" gun.  So I guess it's not  "crap shoot" either right?

My baikal isn't pretty, but I could shoot a lot, then use it to beat a grizzly to death, lever a ford off of a parking bumper, paddle a canoe downstream with it, then go shoot just as good as before and it wouldn't be any uglier than when I started.
I got the blues as my companion.

That's about what I had in mind, getting some use out of the HD shotgun that otherwise just sits by the bed.
But I like to hear about how the pro's do it as well,
(Billt) ESPECIALLY WITH PICTURES , HINT, HINT. ;D

Water jugs, old computers, washing machines, blowing big holes in all kind of,......oh,..

Home Depot has clay pot bottoms for 10 cents,....

I see the trap/skeet guys at a nearby range, they take it very seriously, including the nice padded shooting shirt. Never have I seen a tactical "type" shotgun but those boys are fast...

Some of there shotguns are traditional, engraved high-end stuff. Some are the newer O/U style. But it sure looks like a good time.

The old hand eye thing is important.
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.
