As for the Felon with a gun, Local ne'er do well did time for armed robbery a couple years ago, last spring, him and his ex girlfriend had a fight, she owed him dope money ( Just up the street ) He threatened her with a pistol and whopped her upside the head with it. Couple hours later they pulled him over (In sight of my living room window ) found a pistol under HIS seat, his finger prints, her blood both on it and it matched her description of the weapon he walloped her with.
Prosecutor let him have probation in exchange for a guilty plea .

WTF...

unless the police did something wrong that got something thrown out.  there is no reason that should not go to trial.  Thats pretty open and shut.

I mean I'm not even a lawyer and I could win that case.

call the vic, haver her tell her story. call the aresting officer, show the gun. call the lab tech, show the blood on the gun.  The proscution rests.  Might take all of a day.

I know, I wrote letters to the editors of both local papers saying essentialy the same thing and that with incidents like that their calls for "crime control and prevention" were a pathetic joke.
They refused to publish it and have not published any of my letters since

THats the kind of case a DA loves.  Its a slam dunk and you can show the public how hard you are on crime.  thats a elected offical in the justice departments wet dream.

Unless he and daddy were frat brothers and the girl was "the wrong sort" or something like that. In which case? Its "good ole boys" rules.   If you want to be a real prick, AND revel in the irony at the same time Tom? Call your friendly neighborhood G-man. (after making sure the vic will testify). The OPR is scary stuff and they make their bones prosecuting small time local officials so they get to play in the big leagues. Its far more trouble than its worth BUT, if I were an ambitious 30 year old agent? I might swing by Laconia and spend a day or two.
