As to any firearm, always, everytime without thought, orient the muzzle in a safe direction, and check the magazine or clip well, then the chamber, and know in your heart it is empty. It is kind of a game at my club, 5 guys or girls can be standing around looking at somebodies new whiz bang, and each in turn will check the firearm, again, although they have seen each of us check it before.

If someone clears their gun and hands it to me to "check out this trigger", I cannot pull the trigger without checking it myself.
I just can't do it. Thankfully, neither can my wife.

What Alf said about the store clerk not clearing the weapon before handing it to him is very surprising. I'm glad he spoke up. That guy needed the education!
Every gun counter I've been at the clerk cleared the weapon and locked the slide or opened the cylinder before handing it over. This guy must have been new or very tired. No excuses are allowed around firearms!

You can say lots of bad things about pedophiles; but at least they drive slowly past schools.

Doubley true at a gun shop. I know a few, where some weapons were left loaded as a last ditch security measure (we can debate whether this is a good idea, but its fact). The drill was always to treat them all like they're loaded. I'm with Kmitch. I don't care if I've just dissasembled my glock, I still work the slide twice before pulling the trigger to lock it back. I've been ten feet away from an ND. It scared me straight.

Me neither.....like MBane said, "The gun isn't clear unless I clear it."......
Why, yes....I'm the right-wing extremist Obama warned you about... ;D

I just wish Texas was as free and independent as everyone thinks it is...   :'(
