TOUGH girl Hollywood actress Michelle Rodriguez is adding some star power to the anti-whaling movement.

Rodriguez, a star of the blockbuster film Avatar and hit TV series Lost, is throwing her weight behind the Sea Shepherd's seventh Antarctic whale defence campaign.

She arrived in Hobart onboard the Sea Shepherd vessel Steve Irwin.

However work commitments in the US have forced her to withdraw from the three-month trip.

"I really am so disappointed, but I am planning on coming back for next year's campaign, definitely," Rodriguez said.

She has been a follower of the Sea Shepherd's cause since 2007 and said she is greatly concerned about the plight of endangered whales and other marine life.

"God knows what the future holds," Rodriguez said.

"My generation is the one that is going to make things happen.

"I thought 'How can I be a responsible citizen to this planet?' The Sea Shepherd is the perfect way to make a difference."

Early next month, Captain Paul Watson and 90 crew members will embark on three ships, Steve Irwin, Bob Barker and a new fast interceptor vessel The Ocean Adventurer.

Rodriguez will spend the next six days in Hobart and the surrounding areas.

"I can't wait to go out and see the old growth forests," she said.

When they line up the gangplank the crew will be invited to "Come on down". I suppose the ones that can name the price of a can of corn without going over might get a pardon.

The way I understand it, they are operating in international waters so.......If I were part of the whaling fleet, I would be taking some more drastic action. I like that these idiots got run over. I have no problem with protest, but as soon as you get stupid and impede people going about their LAWFUL business, you have crossed the line and deserve anything you get. This also goes back to Tom's question about why the normal people have to be the tolerant ones.

I have never figured out how they can throw acid on a harpon ship with out getting a harpon in the ass. If i was the harpon ship they would try that once. I would take the the acid as a lethal threat. I would look at disabilinb my ship in the same way. if your ship is disabled out there, it could cost you your life.
