One powder two guns

My shooting buddy and I would like to do some reloading so I dug out the old RCBS and blew the dust,let ue begin. I shoot a S&W696 44 spl and my buddy shoots a S&W 642 ct can anyone tell me a good powder for reloading both guns for the range with SWC. Last reloading I did I used DuPont powder. One word ....... Unique. Makes great plinking loads.

A couple come to mind, though I'm not sure which would be best for your combination.

Power Pistol
VV N340

For all my semi's I'm settling in on VV N340 as soon as I run out of my other powders.   A little more expensive, but a higher quality powder.   I use about 15% less per load than with Power Pistol.   The whole VV line is lower smoke factor than most of the others and I'm doing a lot of indoor shooting.   One plus for me is I use the exact same load in 9mm and in .40S&W.  With 125gr LRN in 9mm I get 130power factor and with 175gr LSWC in .40 I get 170PF!  How cool can that be?  Don't have to change the powder measure!

Unique is wide range, but both dirty to handle and a little smoky.     You could do Bullseye, Unique and 2400 and cover practically every pistol round.

I thought HS-7 was about perfect but they discontinued it.  Tried HS-6 and it was okay.

Power Pistol is certainly inexpensive, but not as clean burning as I'd like.  It will be my fall back when I can't get (or afford) VV.

I'll second Unique.  It probably isn't the best powder but you should be able to find it at you local gun shoppe.

1st powder that comes to mind, is ww 231, works really well with light loads and I have used up to .44 mag, very clean with a good crimp.

If I were ever to be limited to storing and using just one powder for handguns...It would be Unique. 
It's kind of like the .30-06....It'll work for just about everything, but there are better individual choices around.

adi (mulwex) ap70n clean burning I use it for .357 to 44 no issues

also I agree with win 231 although I find it a little dirtier than the ap70 and more expensive

unique or w231, both are great "all around" pistol powders.

Unique, it was my first smokeless powder.   Used it for .45 colt and acp.
