Want list just got changed...seems someone thinks I need my truck repaired and a new furnace for the house more than I need a new blaster!  D..N, I hate when that happens.

HO, Ho, fricken HO!

Richard

LOL our water heater took a crap at about 4 am.  luckly I was awake to turn it off.  Just waiting for the plumbing store to call now so I can go pick it up.  Always buy professional quality wanter heaters.   yes they are 50% more then the same size at the box stores, but the quality is so much better.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

+1 I personally have and use a stainless and cuper nickel grade marine water heater, used on yachts, They are pricey, but I bought one and saved the old one and will take this one if I move.

Until I can go tankless.. ::)

Sorry about the furnace and truck ellis. :-\
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

Their heat recovery time is better as well.  Dual element minimum.....serviceable anode is a plus as well, pressure relief a must...

Trust me you don't want a tankless.

I've installed dozens of them, not only are they gas hogs,( requiring more gas then the average house) they are only about 80% eff. and you still have the volume of the pipes before you get warm water.

I have a recircilating system now. IMO thats the best bang for the buck.

If I wanted a green system, I'd go with a hybrid solar and tank unit.  The solar handles all but the last 10-20 degrees.  which the tank handles.

I installed a tank less boiler (heating oil) back in the 90's into my house in CT.  It was actually very efficient compared to what I replaced.  The savings from NOT using electricity to make hot water was pretty high and I'd replaced a forty year old dinosaur of a boiler.

Then, oil was about 80 cents a gallon, I paid $3.30/gallon a couple of weeks ago to fill my tank......basically, a thousand bucks right before Christmas.....gotta love New England winters!

 :(

They have come along way with insulation in the last 10 years.

SOmething as simple as insulating your water pipes can save several % off your water heating bills.

Out here, Northeast Utilities used to provide the materials free of charge.  Don't know if they do anymore.

The stuff they give you is not that great, better then nothing, but still not great.

It figures, they give you a little break, but not enough to effect THEIR profit.   :-\
