If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

I wish just "one" of those whalers, had an old Arisaka rifle 7.5 Jap I think??, and shoot the radar array. No harm to the boat, and it leaves them pretty damn blind.  Perhaps the whalers could arm their ships with fully automatic 12g bean bag rounds. Non lethal, but they won't be on deck deploying prop foulers, or hurling acid.

Oh the horror, from the "world" press, if they actually fired a round!!! I like the bean bag approach... ::)

C'mon the Japanese pay good money to bribe the countries on the whaling council that approves the permit. Like the Internationally known whaling Mecca of Barbados and Antigua....

Last years tally:

Whalers 1
Ady Gil  0, and on the bottom.

You know, it really is kind of sad when you find yourelf rooting for the whalers. I love to hunt, but I think certain things shouldn't be hunted because the populations can't sustain it. Whales are one of them. Normally, I'd root for the protestors. But when they start throwing aid and playing chicken in cold water, willfully endangering lives for an animal? I'm with TW. Screw 'em. I don't care what the Japs do.

Tell me that these Japanese needed 506 whales for "research"? I'm not in favor of what Sea Shepherd does but come on 506 whales for research? They've got to be kidding! Five or six sure but 506 horse pucky!

The world wants the US to give up its guns to be more like them and then the world lets this go on? That is as two faced as anyone can get. What a crock!

Pecos Bill, I agree. We all know they stuff their holds with meat for a very lucrative, well funded meat market. Just like the Dolphins in the Lost Cove of Japan that herd dolphins to slaughter, strictly for meat.

These regulations can be changed easily if folks were so inclined. To the Sea Shepard's credit, they have exposed this. I'm not pro-whaling, but am totally anti-piracy, and what they do is up there with ELF, and other enviro- terrorist groups that would risk life and limb of others for their cause.

Remember the tree hugger that became bear dinner, after chaining himself to a tree? Not the best approach. Darwin was right on that one. :P

Japanese hold on to tradition, just like the American Eskimo's are legally allowed to club baby Harp Seals, and kill adult seals in their "native" method, which is far less humane than a 30-06.

But where the life expectancy in Antarctic waters is 4-6 minutes, any and all attempts to disable my vessel will be treated as an act of Piracy in International Waters, and I would pick them up from their life boats, render assistance, first aid, etc,.. and transport them to the nearest port for charges under International Piracy Laws, as the Bob Barker, Steve Irwin, and Godzilla would be at the bottom.

Until something changes. The Japanese are playing too nice.

These seasonal confrontations in the remote Southern Ocean have become increasingly tense, with occasional collisions underscoring the danger and controversial nature of some methods employed by Sea Shepherd, which has been criticized for risking human lives in its effort to save minke whales, which are not an endangered species

not an endangered species.... so what's the problem here? we harvest cattle, fish, whatever... as long as it is not endangered.. I don't see any problem. I don't want to eat whale, but heck, in Korea they eat dog..

I've eaten whale meat.  Not bad, but not worth more $ than semi-decent beef, even if it is a rarity.

This old Rabbit is really torn by this conflict.  On the one hand, the tree-huggers just p!ss me off.  On the other hand, unless you are Inuit or Tlingkit, I don't think you are missing much by not eating whale meat.  If you are of the Eskimo persuasion and hunt the beasts with a harpoon from a sea-going kayak...  Well, my hat is off to fellow hunters and I greatly respect the effort and risk.  It's more than I would attempt, even if I liked blubber.

It will give me a certain joy to see this fiberglass "go-fast"end up on the bottom.

South Korea, although it does not allow 'whaling' does encourage harvesting whale meat that has been caught in nets by their fishermen. so, yes, I have the opportunity to eat whale meat but I really don't have the desire. (even McDonald's serves whale burgers in S. Korea) I've heard it's not all that great (though I may have to try it myself sometime). you never know, maybe one night, returning to the ship in a state of inebriation I may end up sloshing down some whale meat, or dog, or cat... you never know in Korea....

Cool!!!

A brand new season of cheering for the "bad guys."

http://www.grindtv.com/outdoor/blog/22423/japanese+whalers+to+face+new+enemy+in+godzilla/

Folks, whether the whales taken by the Japanese are endangered or not there is a world wide ban on whaling. (Read the article at the link.) Such a ban does not ( apparently ) include allowing the Japanese to hunt any whales. They list the whaling as a scientific study. So they take hundreds of whales? Research? My a$$ and it's a big one. What the Japanese are doing is illegal and they should be stopped.

What Sea Shepherd does dangerous, stupid and borders on piracy! They should be stopped! Unfortunately if the Japanese Coast Guard fires on these idiots they will be chastised by public opinion for simply protecting themselves and their vessels. Sea Shepherd is a terrorist group. I've seen this "war" from Sea Shepherds point of view and they do put the Japanese in physical danger.

This is a little rambling but I think you'll get the idea. STOP BOTH SIDES IN THIS MESS.

Bill, the Japanese Whaling was approved by the UN 30 years ago or more.
