HK 45C
« on: December 05, 2010, 06:52:22 PM »
On the quest for a perfect carry .45 (which may never be met :) Except. some rule outs.. it can't be single action or a glock.. though both great guns.. looking for options.

I presently carry a Taurus PT 145.. though it is a great gun, small, light, 10+1 and never had a FTF over 2000 rounds.. I have my eyes on a HK 45compact.
For those who carry the HK any insight? or should I just be happy with the Taurus??  Or anyone want to weight in on another?

Thanks..
Be Safe.

I personally think the PT145 is the most under-rated handgun made. I've been carrying one for a couple years now as my compact carry gun and have been totally impressed with it in every way. I did some very slight grip modifications, rounded the trigger guard and cut some relief under it for comfort. I recently picked up a Glock 30 with crimson trace and have been trying to carry it instead but the Taurus really feels a bit better. I will give in to the 30 since my other carry gun is a 21 and I can interchange the 21 mags. One other bonus to the Taurus is if you happen to carry a para P13/P14 the Taurus will feed and function with the Para mags. It will also fit in a Glock 26/27 ankle holster. I know Para advertises the Warthog as the smallest 10 shot 45 but I really feel like the PT145 is smaller and definitely lighter.

Weight, is the one thing to consider. The HK is 27.69 oz, unloaded, the PT is 18.45 oz. unloaded.

If this is not an issue for you, especially after loading the mag, the HK is pricey, but a great pistol. Sig pistols may be one to check out, as well as other brands, that may be closer to a lighter platform.
