PITTSBURGH -- A spokesman for US Airways has confirmed that a dog got loose on board a plane, and the captain decided to divert to Pittsburgh.According to the airline's Todd Lehmacher, Flight 522 was a nonstop flight from Newark to Phoenix but was diverted to Pittsburgh International Airport on Monday morning.Lehmacher said the company's policy is to allow pets in the plane's cabin if the pet and its cage can fit under a seat. The policy also states that the pet may not be let out of the cage.According to the airline, the passenger who brought the dog on board the plane did let the animal out. Lehmacher said the dog got loose and bit another passenger and a flight attendant.The flight was diverted to Pittsburgh by the pilot and medical personnel met the plane to treat the bite victims for minor injuries.US Airways is trying to get the rest of the passengers back on track to Phoenix, Lehmacher said.
