Quick Prayer for the Wife *Not Bad News*
« on: December 08, 2010, 11:33:01 AM »
I want to say this is nothing bad, but a quick prayer to ease some anxiety might help.

Many of you might remember my wife going through cancer treatment last year for Hodgkins Lymphoma. Well, she had her latest CT scan last month and all was clear so the docs said she could get her IV port taken out of her upper chest area. They were going to do it in January, but since our deductible has been met this year, she asked them to move it up to December and they agreed.

Anyway, today is the day and she is pretty nervous because it will be done in the office with a local anesthetic, unlike when it was put in in the OR at the hospital, under general anesthesia. I told her it won't hurt and it will not be any more trouble than when they did her biopsy in the office. I think the length of the IV tube that goes way up into the vein is what has her worried because of how far it has to come out. I tried to tell her it is no different than the two central lines they yanked out of my neck that were a foot long, and after thinking back that seemed to help.......until today...I guess the date kinda sneaked up on her.

I know she is a tough woman and will be fine, but a few prayers to settle her nerves would be greatly appreciated from you guys.

Thanks,

Chuck

Peg, I did not know what specific illness your wife had.
My Cousin had the same problem back in the 70's and went through the treatment options then available.
40 years later and he is still in fine health.
With the improvements in medicine since then, I'm sure she will be keeping you in line for many years to come.

All the docs involved said without a doubt that Hodgkins was the "cancer to have.... if you had to have cancer". They said the treatment protocols that developed in the late 70's were found to work well. The chemo they use (ABVD) is very powerful, and if you can physically tolerate it, the success rate is in the mid 90% range. She also had radiation treatments after the chemo and with the addition of that the docs said it boosted the cure rate (without re-occurrence) to something like 98+%.

At her last visit to get the scan results, the doc told her that the most common time for a re-occurrence with Hodgkins is in the first 6-12 months after the last treatment (and that is usually due to ineffectiveness of the treatment itself) and since she was nearing the 12 month mark everything was going well.

Great news for a Fantastic Holiday Blessing.

Done.
