As much as it pains me to suggest this, the National Firearm should come from the oldest Armory in the US even though it's no longer in existence.

Springfield Armory, Springfield, MA......

IF we have a national firearm (and I say why not), it has to be a Winchester 30/30. Its the gun that won the West, and the ultimate multi tasker. Pistols were expensive. Most everybody had a rifle or shotgun though. A Greener would be more representative, but that lever action just screams America. Besides which, it will still do everyhing you need today. Hunting or SD, its the poorman's "assault rifle". Deer or man, getting within 150 yards is a bad idea. Let Castro have the AK. A clinched fist with a Winchester, that's a flag I'd buy. ;D

FQ, The Frontier Army used Trapdoor Springfields, it was the Indians who had the Winchesters.
