You get to watch it yet?
I thought it was a bloody decent film, funnily it showed the calibre of some officers, from the tales my GFather told about his time over in belgium, egypt, france etc Some officers where very lucky ever to make it out  ;)

If you noticed almost all the males in the Melbourne scenes were young boys or old men.
Every one else was in North Africa.

Back then it was for adventure, king and country! Very few had any idea of the horrors of war that lay waiting, even after they came back, some with horrendous injuries, mental issues it was rarely spoken of, and when it was the truth of it all was never made public. Its only because of the advent of film, peoples personal diaries that some things ever make the light of day.
Australia was only a small country (still is some what) and to have so many men lost really hurt.
Some Australian Statistics
First World War 4/8/1914 -- 11/11/1918

416,809 enlisted AIF (includes AFC) -- 13.43 percent of the white male population and probably about half the eligible men.
331,000 enlisted and served overseas
61,720 died (all causes)
155,000 wounded (all services)
4,044 taken POW, 397 died while captive

1914-1918: four million

TW and I were talking about "The Pacific". By then the adventure aspect was long gone, it was just King and Country.
And by the time their country was threatened by Japan the Aussie men were all in North Africa or India.

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them

Watched Harry Brown yet with Michael Caine? Best movie from him in a long time.

I'll have to watch that, Caine was under played in the "Inception".

However, the Battle for Okinawa, one of the last episodes, was about as accurate as those that were there described. Atrocities, and as TomB posted, Europe, was fought for Victory, The Pacific was extermination.

My Grandfather only shared his experience's shortly before he died, and until that day, despised the Japanese, and SPAM. No Japanese food, cars, products, for the remainder of his life.

After what he described, watching the bonus interviews, with the Veterans that were there, and watching the series, I can't blame him for the way he felt.
