"tactical" light that takes "ordinary" batteries??
« on: December 17, 2010, 10:33:18 AM »
So what is the best out there??  I haven't looked in a while, but I need to.  I want new EDC/BOB lights that take AA (preferred) or AAA, have stupid bright (180+ lumens) and a low task-light setting (strobe not necessary), and are reliable as a rock, cheaper than a gun (less than a C note, under 50 preferred so I can buy twice as many).

This is the best I have found:  http://www.4sevens.com/product_info.php?cPath=297_306&products_id=1656

4sevens tactical quark AA2.  $60

Anyone have something better?

"Why are you carrying a pistol?  Expecting trouble?"

"No Maam.  If I was expecting trouble, I'd have a rifle."

Pelican lights are good and use regular batteries, available in AA, AAA, C and D battery. bright and indestructible. also good for explosive atmospheres as you would find in mines, oil field, or even after earthquake etc... where you may find burst gas lines. we use them a lot on tankers and oil field. water and gas proof... almost AB proof. (AB is an Able Bodied Seaman. or deck ape. stick one in a closet with a bowling ball and that ball will get F(^$@d up! or... 3 steel balls, they will lose one, steal one and break the last one)
if you haven't noticed I really don't hold a high opinion of ABs.  :P
anyway, good lights, streamlight also puts out some lights with regular batteries. good luck.

I have several solarforce torches and they are very good value for money. I prefer the ones that use 18650 batteries however as they last a lot longer and being lithium after being charged they dissipate very very slowly. I brought an extender for one of mine and it lasts over 3 hours on two batteries at 100% brightness and will throw around 100yrds. Another I have is the pro 1 head and it will throw about 300 no probs.
The proble,, with aa or AAA batteries is that the light dims as they lose the juice.

Check out the Fenix brand of lights. The models LD20 and LD10 are very nice handy lights that i carry all the time. Optics planet has them for a very good price.
