Sen. Reid To Bypass Hearings For New ATF Head Andrew Traver

After all, Reid is such an RKBA advocate.  >:(

Is Harry Reid Greasing The Skids For Andrew Traver?
According to a post from the NFA Owners Association, it seems that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has not scheduled any hearings or votes on the nomination of Andrew Traver to head ATF.

"Pinky" Reid is showing his true colors again.
He is stealthily, but very clearly, supporting anti-gun zealot Andrew F. Travers, to become the new head of BATFE. He has to do this by stealth in order to maintain the myth that he is a strong supporter of our RKBA.

Reid has NOT made any real effort to ensure the Traver nomination is voted on before congress adjourns.

    This is typical of him.

He will let Traver become a recess appointment, then continue to claim that he "really does" support our RKBA. If anyone complains he will deny all responsibility, probably blaming the republicans for time running out.

Readers here might remember that one of the claims for allowing Reid to remain in office was that he is SENATE MAJORITY LEADER, and a (claimed) supporter of our RKBA. IF he TRULY wanted Traver's nomination to be scheduled and voted on it would be.

I checked with his DC and local office, asking when a hearing would be held.
They could not give me a direct answer. The D.C. office insisted they did not know, and transferred me to a busy signal.
The Carson office promised to send me a written response, which I expect to get several days after the question is moot.

We can let him slide on this, or we can demand that he actually make more than a token effort to REPRESENT US on this!

    Contact info:

    Senator Harry Reid (D) NV.
    Web site: http://reid.senate.gov
    Mail: United States Senate
    Washington, DC 20510-2803
    Ph. (202) 224-3542, Fax (202) 224-7327

    Carson City - Ph. (775) 882-7343

    Reno - Ph. (775) 686-5750

    Las Vegas Ph. (702) 388-5020

    Rural Mobile - Ph. (775) 772-3905

Using senate rule 14 Reid could easily bring the Travers nomination to a vote before the "Lame Duck" session's end.

That he is NOT doing so confirms for me that he intends to see ATF headed by an anti-RKBA zealot via "Recess Appointment", and deny all responsibility for it.

I checked status on this before posting, as of today there is still no hearing scheduled for the Travers appointment.

This is a post from my blog. I quoted a post on the NFA Owners Assoc. Forum.

First let me say that I find Harry Reid to be a mealy-mouthed, prune faced weasel. However, the last 3-4 paragraphs of my post said why I thought the fact that Reid was not bringing forth the Traver nomination was much ado about nothing.

Traver is an appointee of the Dept of Justice so his nomination and hearings would first go to the Judiciary Committee. They have not held any full committee hearings since Nov 17th which was the same day that Traver's nomination was sent to the Senate. The committee hearings at that time were for judges nominated back in May 2010 or earlier.

Traver's nomination would not be brought to the full Senate until they held hearings in the Judiciary Committee. It just isn't done.

With regard to a recess appointment, I think it is a possibility. However, if Reid has his way, he'll keep the Senate in session until he gets all the liberal claptrap passed that he can. He has threatened to keep the Senate in session until the end of the current Congress on Jan 3rd. I frankly hope he does because it would preclude a recess appointment of Traver.

Finally, as to Reid not scheduling a vote on Traver, right now he has more important fish to fry.

I agree. I also think though, that this is why the NRA was wrong not to endorse Reid. The basic rule in politics is that you dance with who brung you. Reid danced with us on 2A issues regardless of party, and we danced with him, regardless of other stuff, in return. Then, in this last election when he needed us, we screwed him over. He won't run again, and might be a bit bitter about a perceived (hell, real) betrayal. Love him or hate him on other stuff, he always voted right on guns. Then, the NRA dissed him. We have no call to expect loyalty now, and he has nothing left to lose. It was a strategic error on our part and I hope it doesn't bite us in the ass.

Actually, I think this is due to the NRA endorsing Reid for all the elections before now....hope they enjoy all that Christmas crow that they're swallowing now....
Why, yes....I'm the right-wing extremist Obama warned you about... ;D

You don't think the nomination was made on the last scheduled day of committee meetings was a coincidence, do you?

Not bitterness, just showing his true colors. He used the NRA to get votes, period. And when the NRA finally woke up and saw just how dangerous Reid was/is and yanked their backing, he reacted like a spoiled child at the perceived double-cross and is lashing out. Of course, Reid is hiding the fact he was just using the NRA to get votes and playing up the victim mindset - I was soooooo good to them and look what they did to me.

Anyone who doesn't think this whole Taver thing is orchestrated or manipulated, is delusional, to put it mildly. Nothing ever happens in DC for no reason or accidentally.

I'm not very good at procedural things, but when you pull an appointment like this can the new Congress call him in in January?

The reason I ask this is that it is obvious that this is a procedural move to avoid the "change" we started in November.
