I carry a 1911 much of the time, and it's not for the willy-nilly carry guy. I am 6'1 200lbs, and I still have to dress for the 1911. It's cold now, so I get to cheat with a jacket. In the summer, it's a whole new deal. A sterdy belt is a must, and the cargo shorts will  a just piss you off. I wear a snubby for those times. Most of the time, I just look like a guy hiden a big gun. That's ok with my though. It may not be ok with others. I just know that I feel so much better when I can curl my fingers under the edge of my floppy shirt and feel that big ol' hole in the muzzle. There is much to be said for the comfort of a 1911 and 8 rounds of 230 grain JHP.

Since I have received a few PMs in relation to this thread about which 1911 or even which Single Action revolver I carry..... (Must be the cowboy image) ;D  ;D, I might as well answer here.

No, I don't carry a SA revolver.  ;) The SA is for cowboy competition, but if I didn't have any other option, I would to some extent be comfortable with it and in a 4 3/4" and maybe in this holster.

But as long as there are options and if I can choose and pick, it would be a 1911 or a gun with a 1911 design.

My bedside and carry gun, is a .45 ACP Para LTC. The holster is a Fobus model C21B.

Why the LTC? Well, I don't have any long explanation. It is a 1911. I am very familiar and comfortable with a 1911 after my IPSC years, it is a compact version, (4.25"), price was good when I was in shopping mode and it works!

I know, I sound like Walt Rauch... short and to the point ;D

I've had this gun for about 3 years and with both factory and reloaded ammo, it has never failed me.

Great points.

One more - it's Para's version of the Commander.  And the Commander-length 1911 is one of my all time favorite pistols.

It is, of course, a matter of personal choice.  I am more than happy with my Dan Wesson Classic Commander Bobtail.  It is a bit less bulky than most, which makes it easier to conceal.  A few months ago, during a very busy period in my life, I took it to the gunsmith at one of my favorite stores for a detailed cleaning.  Not having worked on a Dan Wesson 1911 before, he was amazed at the quality of the pistol.  As for accuracy, it's a hell of a lot better than I am, which always keeps me stretching to come close to its potential.  Put it on a rest and you can shoot flies off a log all day long.  I would not use hollow-points in any 1911.  Browning didn't design it for them.  Concealed carry is strictly for social work anyway, and I think the only socially responsible round is the Glaser - in any calibre.

I have and will continue to carry a lightly modified Colt Officers ACP LW with Federal 230 HS.  Am slimming down a bit due to Dr's orders so I will have to adjust my wardrobe and ammo to Cor-Bon DPX when cold weather arrives (if I can afford to buy new clothes) but for now I use a "fanny pack".  I'm 61 and no one pays any attention at all.

I have to go with the Government model, because the weapon and round were made for each other. The shorter barrels have issues with feeding and accuracy sometimes. I just dont trust the short barrels and the .45ACP thats why I went with  a .40 in the short barrell. As far as maker, not many that wont run fine, little tweak and break in, about 200 rounds and your good to go.
