The Right Place At The Right Time, For A New Addition
« on: December 30, 2010, 05:39:31 PM »
I reckon, for a "one handgun" option, this was too good to pass up. Good friend, needed money, having some family problems, and other issues. Decided to sell me his SS Ruger Blackhawk .357 Magnum. 6" heavy barrel. Adjustable rear sights, and a beautiful single action. Damn what a light trigger!

If I told you guys how much I paid for it, you would yell and post bad things, so I'll just say it was a song and dance for a pistol in this condition, which would be close to mint.

Any Blackhawk owners please chime in with any tips and advice. Although I have shot them, I have not owned one. It is a tank of a revolver. Certainly worthy of a beatdown pistolwhippin' backup, if ammo runs out.

Way to end the New Year for me....Maybe deepwater will swing down my way, and we can debate the "wheel guns, is real guns"  thing over a couple dozen beers.... ::)

Range report this weekend. I'm getting that Chris Matthews "tingle" again,..... :P

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

Since when has not knowing the price stopped us from posting bad things?  You should be ashamed fo yourself for taking advantage of the poor guy!  To ease your conscience I'll take it off your hands.

Richard

PS:  I hope you let him know it's his again if and when he can swing it?

I had one when I was young man.  It also had a scary light trigger!  So light, I decided to part with it which, in retrospect, probably was a mistake.

Oh well, great buy Tom.  Enjoy the mild recoil shooting the "Linebacker" of .357s!

Very nice gun, TW.

I've always wanted one in .44 Spl.........that being said, if you were to give the .357 to me, I could learn to love it.  ;)   ;D  ;D  ;D

I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

Yep! I didn't part with mine because of the light trigger, but just because I needed the money at the time. :'( However, it will go off if you sneeze, which is what a SA revolver should do. IMHO they are the best revolver Ruger ever made, and I wish you the joy of it. I don't care if it was a song and a dance or an arm and a leg, you will not regret owning it.

I traded mine for a S&W model 27 4inch barrel. Don't really regret it since I needed something for more concealed carry, but if I ever had the extra money I would replace it.
But I would go with a shorter barrel .

I love Blackhawks too much.  I own 5 of them.  My .357 is one of the 50th anniversary models.  It is a hoot to shoot.  I enjoy shootting .38 special +P in it the most.  I have used it hunting and just missed a coyote because he started running just as I pulled the trigger.  Those things are almost impossible to blow up and can handle stout .357 ammo that would destroy a Smith and Wesson.  When shooting I sometimes wrap my pinky under the grip to help with recoil.

We've got one blued...nice single action, fun to shoot, sturdy as hell.
I got the blues as my companion.
