Florida GOP Comes Through, Again

One of the downsides to living in Fl., is that you often want to deny it. When it comes to any news story dealing with the weird and corrupt, especially in politics, you brace yourself and think "please let it be New York or California", but knowing in your heart its probably going to be about the Sunshine State. Today is no exception. We have been embarrassed by California. There was a piece on the upcoming Gubenatorial inaugarals. Jerry Brown, Governor Moonbeam, is having a BBQ. Seems like a solid and sensible plan. Our Governor, Rick "Skeletor" Scott? Well, in keeping with these times of austerity, he's dropping  $2.8  million to welcome himself into office. Don't worry though, its all private (read corporate) money. I'm sure the donors expect nothing in return. I don't care which party you belong to. How freaking clueless do you have to be to drop the better part of three million dollars on an inaugaral when your state has one of the highest unemployment and foreclosure rates in the nation? In what alternate universe does this seem like a good idea?

FQ, If you want to interest "High Rollers", and serious business people you have to play the game.
Would you go to a College fund raising event in jeans and a sweat shirt ?  Same idea, you have to project the "image".
Personally I'd go with a clam bake and Lobster feed on the beach. but then I'm a Barbarian

I've been to more than anyone's share of those things, and I agree to a point. But here's an idea. Raise the $2.8 million, but then do something simple, like your clam bake or a BBQ, and donate the rest to a politically neutral charity like Big Brothers Big Sisters or the United Way etc.. I'm not just offended by the lavishness, but more by the political stupidity it takes to think this is a good idea. Scott was elected in a "throw the bums out" election. Now, he seems as tone deaf and out of touch as the folks he replaced.

Just think of all the extra folks that got a paycheck. These events have hundreds of folks WORKING Set designers, florists, many, many subs, furniture rental, music, black tie, catering. The state economy benefits. All with his own money.

Better than a second hand trailer trash BBQ, with a broke ass former hippie gov,....again..... In a broke ass state.

Unfortunately, out of touch is to be expected . It goes back to my pre election observation that every vaguely Rep. party hack in the country started waving a Gadsden Flag when they saw how the wind was blowing.
It also under lines my desire for the TEA Party movement to sever it's direct ties to the R's and work toward becoming a viable counterweight to both established Parties.

Exactly what I have been saying.  The liberals that want to tax us to death and beyond to fund their precious projects don't understand that the "evil rich" will part with their money very easily for a pet project.  Sometimes all it takes is a little carrot, or in this case a $2,000 gun and accessory package that they can put on the mantle and tell the story to their friends who will also take out their checkbooks for projects.  Is it ego stroking - YOU  BETCHA!  But, when was the last time you saw someone who didn't respond to ego stroking, including do gooder gladhanders that like to tax us for the good of others.

I think this a bit of sour grapes on your part because your candidate didn't win. It would not surprise me if the bulk, if not all, of the money spent for this shindig is coming from Scott's pocket; after all he is a billionaire.
