Question to all
« on: January 01, 2011, 05:30:49 PM »
Straight and to the point.  I used to own a marlin 336 30-30, was hard up for cash and sold it.  Ive been trying to buy it back forever and now i got him talked into trading for my citadel compact 1911.  Do you all think that its a good deal?

Yes.

Now, you have been trying to "buy it back", forever....OK, given that, trade him. If you want another 1911, they are out there without breaking the bank.

Rock River Arms, comes to mind. Check your quiver of firearms. How bad do you want to trade the compact Citadel? Cost seems close enough, but so is a new Marlin 336.

Shop around, Marlin 336's are always going to be around, if this particular rifle has sentimental or personal meaning, than go for it.

Which one will you shoot more? Do you hunt? Application and usage comes to mind if you otherwise carry another pistol.

Just my .02 cents.

??? Really? That's sad...Don't sweat the 1911, let it go, get your rifle back, hunt in another state, get another pistol later.

For perhaps different reasons, I too sold my Marlin 336 and regretted it as I was handing to the guy.

Trade the 1911. That Marlin is too dear, obviously.

Here is option 3. I used to live in Indiana. They didn't allow rifle hunting, but recently changed to allow the use of pistol carbines so a Marlin or Winchester in .44 mag is now ok. I'd check with the game regs to see if Ohio has followed Indiana's lead, as the two states tend to be close as far as regs go, before I traded. If they have, let that 336 go and get a .44 mag or .357 (though I'd strongly lobby for the .44 between the two for a hunting gun). Otherwise, its up to you. A gun I didn't really like for one I do? It seems like an easy choice. Doubly easy if you have, or can afford, another handgun. If you want a 1911, Rock Island is there for less than $500. Glocks can be had for slightly more, and you can get a kel-tec for $250. If the rifle has sentimental value, and you can't hunt with one in a pistol caliber, I'd lean towards the trade.

No, that's why I mentioned sentimental value. BUT, if Ohio mirrors Indiana regs, and they often do, and he can hunt with a .44 mag, but not a 30-30, it puts a different spin on things.
