Conservative Constitution
« on: January 10, 2011, 10:51:24 AM »
This isn't an actual "Conservative Constitution," as we already have the one written a couple hundred years ago by a bunch of dead white, rich, slave owning racist Christian racists.  That were racist.  This is a "joke" that was written by Constitutional law professor David Cole.  It's a fairly typical leftie screed, but infuriating nonetheless.

Since this is a forum for shooters, I present the "Second Amendment"

2. The right to bear Semi-Automatic Weapons, AK-47s or Bazookas shall not be infringed by background checks, safety locks, age limits or common sense.

This guy apparently knows as little about firearms as he does the Constitution.

I was curious but now that I see your description I would rather spend the time posting instead of reading the link. NOT KIDDING, I'm NOT going to read it. Why?  EXACTLY! Why should I read the musings of an out of touch douchebag who gets paid to indulge his inane idea of the world and of this country. Now THAT would be a real waste of a couple of minutes of my life.

Actually, the US Constitution was an extremely radical document proposing a form of Government that had never been attempted before based on the insanely radical notion that Government derived its powers not from the divine right of birth but from the secular approval of the populace.

Jaybet - If for no other reason, to see what our political opponents are saying.

Tom - It was radical at the time, but the ideas of limited government, individual responsibility and liberty have a heck of a lot to do with what conservatives believe in, at least IMHO.  It seems like conservatives are a lot more interested in preserving the Constitution than most liberals seem to be.

True enough, but look at the rest of the world today. Starting with the least significant countries in the world, all the way to the UN, the drive is for larger, more intrusive government, granting more and more control to the "elites", whether Liberian Army Officers or internationalist "do gooders" with more control over, and less input from, the populations paying for all of it.
The idea of the Constitutional Republic", Government of the people, by the people, and for the people, is just as radical now as it was in 1776.
Judging by the current political climate in the only remaining bastion of this ideal its chances of survival are about the same as they were then.

You are correct, sir!  That being the case, is "conservative" still the right word?  Are we conserving what is already there, are we trying to regain what has been lost, or are we trying to push in a new direction entirely?

Are the lefties the real conservatives, as they're trying to keep the liberty destroying, success-punishing mechanisms they've put in place?

Oh, now I've confused myself.

Conservatives, as we use the word, are indeed trying to conserve what was already existing, and had been working quite nicely. It was a system that had taken a rebellious, bankrupt group of colonies and seen them rise to dominate all fields of human endeavor in a mere 190 years.
What we refer to as "liberals" are also trying to conserve an existing system, one however that has an unbroken record of failure through out the world, and in has changed the once all dominant US into the largest debtor in the history of the world in a mere 45 years.
In our usage the term "Conservative" refers to conserving traditions and American exceptionalism.
The term "Liberal" refer to how they use our money, since the actual ideology of rule of the sheep by a self appointed elite is not "liberal" it is actually tyranny.
