CDC stats for 2007.

Some interesting reading in regards to firearms deaths (i.e. more suicides than homicides but unintentional poisonings were still much higher than either).

Thanks Ichiban...

Auto deaths still surpass firearms deaths and that's even if you leave in the suicides.  Remove that 17K (because they probably would have done the same WITHOUT a firearm) and you're down to 24K.

I don't hear anyone trying to ban motor vehicles, they're far more dangerous in the wrong hands.

BTW....you may want to change groomers, your dog (avatar) is looking a bit gruesome after his last visit!

 ;D

Thank you for the link.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

the reason sucide deaths by guns are so common is, its pretty hard to fail with a gun,

I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

No gun Japan has double our suicide rate.
But TAB is wrong I think. The gun is instant, and therefore relatively painless. As opposed to slitting wrists or hanging.
Women are far less likely to use guns which mar their appearance, generally men shoot themselves, women OD on pills or cut their wrists.

The report stated 17,342 suicides by firearm and 17,246 by "other means".

Seems that people that want kill themselves will get it done by one means or another.

tom most people try to commit sucide, they don't want to kill them selfs really, its a cry for help.

It is as you mentioned instant.  takeing pills there is a short time before you die from it.  Same with slitting wrists. ( often its nothing more then a scratch as most people are really afraid of doing it).

I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

True enough, but if 34,000 meant it, I wonder how many "attempts" there were ?  X10 ?
