Frankenstein Has Arrived!!!
« on: January 20, 2011, 01:27:50 PM »
It finally came, my trip to the "dark side" is now complete. ::)

YHM Upper Receiver
HBAR 1:9 barrel, 16" (yes its chrome lined) ;)
Daniel Defense Bolt Carrier group
VLTOR cold forged charging handle
A.R.M.S #71 flip up sights.
VLTOR IMOD stock
YHM foregrip (for now).
Miculek Compensator
POF billet lower
Bushmaster Lower parts kit
Brownells ERGO Grip (Falcon Ind.)

Much lighter than my Sig556, love the rear stock. Probably change the foregrip to either one with panels, or something else entirely.

Kinda wanted a sound foundation to start with. Nice and simple.

Just wanted to thank (again), all the members who shared their knowledge and exp.
Brownells, Bravo Company USA, are great folks to work with. Palmetto State Armory, Midway, Cheaperthandirt. All delivered.

As a member of the "Black Rifle Society, I'd also like to thank all the anti-black rifle politicians, that motivated me even more.",.... :P
Going for a test drive Sun. at the range.

Can't wait. ;D

Water that plant....
Trim those nails...........

And, oh yeah, sweet AR.......I really like the look of that hand guard personally.

Two thumbs up....hope it shoots as well as it looks........

One of these days, maybe this year, I'll build one myself. The AR is the one gun I've always wanted but never popped on getting. The timing has always been off either money or supply-wise. I was looking at getting one in late '08 when (thanks to BHO's election) the prices went through the roof and money has been tight the last two years.
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

Nice rifle, but those toes were pretty scary

TW,

That's a beautiful AR! Whats the deal on changing out buttstocks? I've never done it. Which ones will go on a stock buffer tube and spring? I don't want to have to remove staked on Castle Nuts and risk buggering anything up. I know some you can just lift up the pin with a screwdriver, slide the stock buttstock off, then slide on the one of your choice. I would like to replace the stock ones on my Colts with Vltor Enhanced Mod-Stocks. But I hear the Mil-Spec buffer tubes are a different size? I don't want to buy into a nightmare.

I just finished changing out the Thermostat in my truck. I thought that was going to be easy. It took me 5 hours! It was a total nightmare! By the time I was done the neighbors were gathering up the children and closing the blinds. My do it yourself career is OVER!!!   >:( >:( >:(   Bill T.

Very nice franken-rifle. I like the non-M4 barrel profile too.
""It may be laid down as a primary position, and the basis of our system, that every Citizen who enjoys the protection of a free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even his personal services to the defence of it, and consequently that the Citizens of America (with a few legal and official exceptions) from 18 to 50 Years of Age should be borne on the Militia Rolls, provided with uniform Arms, and so far accustomed to the use of them, that the Total strength of the Country might be called forth at a Short Notice on any very interesting Emergency." - George Washington. Thank you for the complements.

billt, If your SURE your Colts are mil-spec tubes, they should be 1.145"-1.150"

Commercial tubes are 1.170-1.175"

Be SURE, and just order a mil-spec buttstock.

The VLTOR I ordered is commercial, and any commercial tube works with the VLTOR IMOD,

The MAGPUL ones are sweet also. Here's a mil-spec.

http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Vltor-Basic-IMod-Stock-Standard-p/vltor%20aib-ms%20-black.htm

Bravocompanyusa.com was great just give them a shout, or your local gun shop may help.

Just verify your tubes...

Very Nice but I have a question where is the crush washer  for the compensator ? Did you leave it out on purpose to get it indexed properly?

If you have a Colt odds are you have a Mil-Spec tube. The stock should slide right off. If you have an M4 style stock extend it out as far as it goes then grab the adjustment lever where it hooks onto the stock body, the rounded area, not the lever itself. Pull it away from the stock as far as you can and it should slide right off. The easiest way to tell what tube you have is by looking at the end. A mil-spec tube will be totally flat where a commercial tube has a slight angle. All aftermarket stocks install differently but few need any tools, just follow the instructions included with the stock.
