It finally came, my trip to the "dark side" is now complete. ::)

YHM Upper Receiver
HBAR 1:9 barrel, 16" (yes its chrome lined) ;)
Daniel Defense Bolt Carrier group
VLTOR cold forged charging handle
A.R.M.S #71 flip up sights.
VLTOR IMOD stock
YHM foregrip (for now).
Miculek Compensator
POF billet lower
Bushmaster Lower parts kit
Brownells ERGO Grip (Falcon Ind.)

Much lighter than my Sig556, love the rear stock. Probably change the foregrip to either one with panels, or something else entirely.

Kinda wanted a sound foundation to start with. Nice and simple.

Just wanted to thank (again), all the members who shared their knowledge and exp.
Brownells, Bravo Company USA, are great folks to work with. Palmetto State Armory, Midway, Cheaperthandirt. All delivered.

As a member of the "Black Rifle Society, I'd also like to thank all the anti-black rifle politicians, that motivated me even more.",.... :P
Going for a test drive Sun. at the range.

Can't wait. ;D

Nice job Twyacht, now you've got the bug. The next time I get down south or if you ever make your way up to the middle of the state we need to get together and shoot something. You made some nice choices for a first build, it took me more trial and error to pick the better parts. I'm a big fan of the VLTOR stocks, nothing wrong with Magpul but I do prefer the modstocks. You've actually got a nice 3-gun rifle there too. Did you stay with the stock Bushy trigger?

Very Nice but I have a question where is the crush washer  for the compensator ? Did you leave it out on purpose to get it indexed properly?

Mike Mc

Hey Swamp Yankee, the Miculek Comp, can be adjusted, per left handed shooter, right handed, ideal comp/recoil, and indexing, after talking to the guru at Guntech here in Pompano, it was not necessary, for my app. Right handed rifle shooter, I might have to adjust after firing. Going for minimal recoil. Perhaps an H2 buffer tube one day soon, but they are pricey... :-\

For bafsu....., I stayed with the single stage Bushy trigger, (for now) until I fire it. however, I am not a fan of dry firing firearms, but I did a few times and all I can say is WOW!. Hardly ANY take up. Totally different than my two-stage Sig trigger, or my partners M&P 15T, which seems more "mushy" hard to explain in proper gun lingo. Trigger reset is also very quick.

It's an almost instant "break" when squeezed. I can't imagine it's that light, but I won't know for sure until some range time. But damn,.... it seems crisp.

Thank you again.

FWIW, my cost for this  build is right at $900. including freight and shipping charges. Yes, it's a home build, with parts on retail rifles that sell well over $1000.00.

It is totally conceivable to build a "on a budget" AR for much less. The great thing is, I can build another upper, with longer barrel, Larue billet Upper, bull barrel, and go longer range match grade trigger stuff; OR .......................

The 6.5 Grendel with 18-20" SS Noveske Barrel and a tweaked upper, and some Grendel mags,....and Presto.......

Zombie slayer with long- range/ increased thumping capability...They won't even make it to the yard,.... ::)

The 6.8 SPC is on the table also. So many options. so little money,...., for now,....

Very cool!  All that cost $900 delivered?  I may have to start purchasing parts for my own build.  It won't hurt as much all at once then.   :D

Anyway, someone had to do it.  Might as well be me:

I agree with you on shooting it first. Personally I don't like two-stage triggers. I've got a couple nice aftermarket single stages but I've gotten really good at just working over factory triggers. If you start with a good forged trigger from a quality LPK and not some MIM piece of crap it's very easy to get a trigger with the crispness you're talking about with a 3.5-4# break. All you need is a Dremel with a polishing wheel, some jeweler's rouge and about 10 minutes of work. Just clean up and de-burr the contact surfaces and you'd be shocked at what kind of trigger pull you can get. Even though I have a Geiselle and a Alexander Arms trigger I don't buy aftermarket triggers anymore unless it's a true precision/DMS/SP type rifle I'm building. A very crisp and clean 4 pounds or a little less is all you need or want in a tactical rifle.
