First I like the practical idea you're going after.   Really cool.  A couple of thoughts/ideas.

I think I see the safety rational, but I carry my pocket gun.....in my pocket.  (With an "Inside the pocket" holster.)   Is that going to be allowed?  Could I show up with a jacket and the gun inside the holster in the pocket of the jacket?

I have a question on cover.  In real scenarios, and I'm thinking around the house, the walls do not provide "hard cover".   That is I could easily shoot through a wall or door to stop a "bad guy".  For realism sake could there not be some stages where shooting though cover is allowed?    Encouraged even.   Then they could be countered with a NT behind the target where shooting through presents a high likely hood of hitting the NT.
Will work for ammo

Seems risky Alf. You hit a stud and a screw just wrong, or a thousand other weird things and you have a problem. In theory, its good, but in practice? Maybe if the "wall" were made of paper or canvas it would work, but I would be leery about encouraging competitors to shoot through drywall no matter how safe it SHOULD be.

I like the idea very much!

But I don't understand why you would have a match for pocket pistols and then say they have to be in a holster on the belt.  Kinda defeats the pupose, don't it?  And why not specify a pocket holster, if you're worried about having a gun loose in a pocket.

(As I write this, I have a S&W Airweight in my pocket.)

The rule book is confusing.  First it says you can't have strong hand only scenarios, and then it says you can.

In any event, I have already been talking with some of my shooting friends about just such a match.  Will be trying it when the weather moderates!

GrizzleBear,
Thanks for the thumbs up, the strong hand only is regarding distance "no strong hand only past 8 yards"When running a match safety is a big concern, I'm sure you know some people that you would not wish to stand behind or along side while they draw from a pocket, with skill levels all over the map I feel the only safe way to run a match is from a strong side holster.

Regards,
              Dean

PS on my range I carry a 642 or an LCR in the pocket, I see many people take CCW classes that put the fear of God in me and they start low ready.

My Pocket Pistol. A Stainless Bauer .25 Baby Browning copy. It's a nice little gun except for the 486 pound trigger pull!  Bill T.

Hi All,
Just got done putting together a sport for pocket guns, to me they are the real carry guns and thought it would make for  good practice, when you consider most are never shot (maybe half dozen rounds when you first get it), better to find out on the range what works and what does not. Please take a look    www.pocketcarrycomp.com

Rather than recreate the wheel, wouldn't it make more sense to use IDPA rules and schedule BUG matches?

bbbean,

"rather than recreate the wheel"   why did we not stop at the 1911 or the Ford model A both work fine and get the job done.

In IDPA BUG, stages can only be 5 rds, no draw, no reload, no divisions, no classes, etc. Guns that fit in IDPA BUG 3" 625, Sig 228/239 etc. The most carried guns are pocket guns not small service guns. Not knocking IDPA I've shot it for 12 years, I hold two matches per month and in IDPA BUG I see people game it by the choice of gun they use, they run a Glock 30 with down loads for match and carry a J-frame when they leave. I feel IDPA (at many places) is taking a path away from it's purpose and intent.

Just my take on things, not picking a fight.

I don't shoot IDPA and don't know the rules but how does a P228 or P229 qualify as a "bug"?  My daughter has a P228, holds 13 +1 and can hardly be considered a sub compact.  It's a full size frame with a slightly shorter barrel.
