Many a soldier DIED on the battlefield from non-expanding ammo.

The Tok, I shot, and informal surplus helmet tests, proved that the 7.62x25 will make very effective holes in the target.

Ballistic performance
Bullet weight/type    Velocity    Energy
5.5 g (85 gr) JHP[2]    376 m/s (1,230 ft/s)    390 J (290 ft·lbf)
5.8 g (90 gr) FMJ[2]    409 m/s (1,340 ft/s)    488 J (360 ft·lbf)
5.5 g (85 gr) FMJ[3]    502 m/s (1,650 ft/s)    693 J (511 ft·lbf)
5.5 g (85 gr) FMJ[4]    525 m/s (1,720 ft/s)    760 J (560 ft·lbf)
5.5 g (85 gr) JHP[4]    510 m/s (1,700 ft/s)    715 J (527 ft·lbf)

Faster than many modern calibers, and a punch to go with it.

Is that what you choose to carry ?

It will punch through a helmet ? So what ? Are you going to be taking head shots at troops, or trying to stop a dog or mugger ?
7.62 X 25 seems like a decent little round if you have no options.
But we do.

No, I don't own one. Shot the crap out of deepwater's.  However, in response to TAB, whether it has expanding ammo or not, some rounds are still effective.

Not many,... however, if all I could carry was non-expanding ammo, it would be .45ball. The military still sees the 9mm ball as "good enough".

But for a glove box pistol, tool box pistol, a back up in a BOB,  One that can take a ding or a scratch, be exposed to "less" than ideal maint. conditions, and be cost effective, it is an option. Not for my personal carry, but to have one around, with a pile of ammo and mags, isn't a bad thing. I'll get one of my own just the same.

Especially when you see "some certain" types of folks at gun shows buying body armor these days.

Very true. Don't sell Ball ammo too short. The entire mess in Tuscon was created as a direct result of it. Yeah, if he had used Cor-Bon or Winchester Supreme the body count would have no doubt been higher, and Giffords would have been dead before she hit the ground. But copper and solid lead ripping through flesh and bone has  stopped many a fight, and ruined many a day.  Bill T.
