On MSNBC, with hosts Lawrence O’Donnell and Rachel Maddow expressing extreme disappointment with President Obama’s decision not to discuss any gun control regulation in tonight’s State of the Union address, Chris Matthews cryptically offered them some comfort. Matthews exclusively broke the news that Obama is planning to schedule a separate future address on gun control and didn’t want that issue to overshadow tonight’s economic focus.

From Random House, Webster's College Dictionary:

Infringe - to weaken

Control - 1.  to exercise restraint or direction over; dominate, regulate, or command.  2.  to hold in check; curb.  4.  to prevent the flourishing or spread of.

Anybody see a contradiction between "shall not be infringed" and "Gun Control legislation"?

I hope "Crazy Leg" Matthews is wrong here. It just seems monumentally stupid on BOs part. He must know he doesn't have the votes to get anything serious through either chamber. It will be a loser for him. It will also make it a lot harder for the GOP to support him on economic and border stuff if their constituencies are howling for blood. Not to mention guys like Nelson, Webb and Tester will be coming to his office with baseball bats. I just don't see any upside for him other than keping the lefty base happy. Still, the smart thing for him to do would be pull a Clinton post '94 and veer right. The base will suck it up as they have no choice. What are they going to do, vote for Palin? ;D

Remember FQ -

Two years ago his message to Mrs. Clinton and Mrs. Pelosi was not "no" on gun control, it was "it isn't time yet."  They know where they are politically after loosing the House, and what could happen in 2012.  We don't know when they may decide to throw caution - 2012 to the wind and go full bore for things like this while they still have the Senate and White House.

The Rino backbones will show when faced with "reasonable" and "sensible" and "common sense."  Then there is "we aren't after your hunting and sporting guns."  This is the type of thing Pres. BHO would tie to items in his precious health legislation.  I believe there are areas he will sacrifice, as stated last night.  Health care reform and repeal will become a piece meal bargaining chip for everything he wants to get through.

We have good reason to prepare and fight!

They are scared of the FAR left--the ones that honestly view BHO as a centrist they are that much further left--and losing that vote.
"Why are you carrying a pistol?  Expecting trouble?"

"No Maam.  If I was expecting trouble, I'd have a rifle."
