Don't make Gurkhas angry
« on: January 28, 2011, 11:44:25 AM »
From Second City Cop.

•[Gurkha] soldiers have long been known the world over for their valor and these khukuri-wielding warriors winning the British many a battle have become folklore.

A retired Indian [Gurkha] soldier recently revisited those glory days when he thwarted 40 robbers, killing three of them and injuring eight others, with his khukuri during a train journey. He is in line to receive three gallantry awards from the Indian government.

•“They started snatching jewelry, cell phones, cash, laptops and other belongings from the passengers,” Shrestha recalled. The soldier had somehow remained a silent spectator amidst the melee, but not for long. He had had enough when the robbers stripped an 18-year-old girl sitting next to him and tried to rape her right in front of her parents. He then took out his khukuri and took on the robbers.

Don't make Ghurkhas angry. Does anyone need to be told that twice? Or even once? Apparently so, but still, it seems right up there with "don't piss on high voltage lines" as something you should have figured out for your self. ;D

When the Ghurka Regiment landed in the Falklands the Argentine s were in dread of what they called "Those little brown head hunting bastards".
It seems their reputation preceded them  ;D

They do have quite the commitment to their craft, indeed.  ;)
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

“Fighting the enemy in battle is my duty as a soldier; taking on the dacoits in the train was my duty as a human being”

Gurkha must translate to Marine.
"Why are you carrying a pistol?  Expecting trouble?"

"No Maam.  If I was expecting trouble, I'd have a rifle."

Gee, seemed the Taliban were awfully upset when a Gurkha BEHEADED a dead one for intel.. They cried to human rights groups, and pleaded to have the head returned to bury him, according to Islamic Law.

Breaks my heart. But of course, the Brits apologized...

http://civilianmilitaryintelligencegroup.com/?p=5268

July 21, 2010: In Afghanistan, a British Gurkha is facing court martial for beheading a dead Taliban gunman.
The trouble began when the accused Gurkha’s unit had been sent in pursuit of a group of Taliban believed to contain a local Taliban leader. When the Gurkhas caught up with the Taliban, a gun battle broke out and several of the enemy were killed. The Gurkhas were ordered to retrieve the bodies of the dead Taliban, to see if one of them was the wanted leader. But the Gurkhas were still under heavy fire, and the Gurkha who reached one body realized he could not drag it away without getting shot. Thinking fast, he cut off the dead Taliban’s head and scampered away to safety. When senior British commanders heard of this, they had the Gurkha arrested (and sent back to Britain for trial), and apologized to the family of the dead Taliban. The head was returned, so that the entire body (as required by Islamic law) could be buried. The British are very sensitive about further angering pro-Taliban Afghans, and go out of their way to collect all body parts of dead Taliban (especially those hit with bombs), so that the body can be buried according to Islamic law. The Taliban use accusations of Western troops disrespecting Islam as a major part of their propaganda efforts. When there are no real cases of such disrespect, which is usually the case, they make it up.

As far as beheading goes, the Taliban often do that on living victims, which even horrifies most Afghans. The Gurkhas also horrify most Afghans, as Gurkhas have been fighting Afghans for centuries, in the service of Britain or Indian princes. Gurkhas, who tend to be Hindus, featured prominently in an Indian effort to stop Moslem armies from entering India 1,300 years ago, and pushing the Moslems out of Kandahar (which was then an Indian border town).

I think more Gurkhas would be appropriate.
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

This the nation that conquered the freaking world? WTF? Apologize? Hell, tell them it will happen to each and every one of them until they stop shooting at us. Sweet lord. If they showed the same respect, fine, maybe. But they don't even pretend to. Why do you you apologize to a savage for doing the same thing they do, as was noted, to people who are still alive. If they court martial that guy we should grant him asylum, I'm sure the Marines would take him tommorow.
FQ13 who hopes we all regard Britain as a cautionary tale. Never apolgize, its a sign of weakness (from L.J. Gibbs) ;D.

FQ, there is still a certain usefulness to showing up on their door step in dress uniform and saying " Here's Ahmed's head. Sorry about the mess, We'll try not to do that any more."
Gives the relatives a WTF moment.   ;D
