Help me make a decision
« on: January 30, 2011, 08:24:19 PM »
So 5 years ago I bought a Walther P99QA 40 S&W. I like it well enough, Its my bed side gun and I have a Streamlight TRL-2
mounted on it. I have probably 1000 rounds down the tube. But lately I've had the thought that I should go over to the
dark side and try a Glock. I've looked at there models and have decided ,if I do it, on a G19 and I really like the Gen4. The
Gen4 feels really good to me. I think the 9mm in a polymer gun would be a lot more controllable then the 40S&W. Anyway,
I'm thinking of selling the Walther and getting a Glock 19Gen4. What do you think ?

I've never shot a 9mm but it should be more controlable.

I did the same thing, though I didn't mean to.   I won a Glock in a shooting contest and decided that I could get more cash selling the P99.  So I kept the Glock as the bedside gun.

Anyway, here's my advice.  Get a Glock 22 (full size) or G23 (mid or compact size) in .40S&W.  Then get a Wolf 40/9 barrel,  around $104, for it.  Now you the best of both worlds and can shoot either  9mm OR .40S&W.

Mine came as a package.  Probably put together by the distributor. It included the G23, the Wolf 40/9 barrel, 2 each 9mm and .40 magazines  and Triijicon night sights for $489!   Even if you have to buy the parts separately it's a good deal.
Will work for ammo

Keep the Walther, buy a 1911 in 9mm, and pass on the "Combat Tupperware".   ;D

Find a range that will let you rent a Glock of the model you desire.  I would also recommend the 22 or 23.  (I have a 23).  Take the self defense ammo you plan to use in it and give it a test drive for maybe 50 rounds.

I got a very early 23 and it was very  hard to  handle with the .40 SW ammo I first tried.  I think they loaded that caliber pretty hot when it first came out, trying to approach 10mm performance or something.  After I heard they had found that a better SD round was more lightly loaded I I tried it again and it was very good.  If it feels good, go with the Glock.  I'd keep the Walther if you can afford it.

Take Alf's advice on the extra Lone Wolf barrel and you will have a nice set up if you

You can do the barrel exchange with several of the Glocks.I"ve got the 27 in .40S&W, but a simple barrel exchange makes it a 9mm--essentially a model 26--though why anyone would want such a pu$$y-round when you could be shooting a .40 is beyond my ken.

My Glock is one of the earlier ones, and I have never had an issue with it.  It's ugly, but it works every time.  FWIW
