Yeah mate we are way way way away from the cyclone, I am about as far as you can get with out actually living with penguins LOL
and yes its the same state that got screwed by the floods.
To give you guys an idea of the size of the thing compared to katrina heres a comparrison.
Note the wind speed, rainfall, and expected storm surge, it beats Katrina

Its time to batten down the hatches and assume the nuclear position for those guys I think.

Somehow, methinks, the Aussie's affected, won't go to the "Superdome", sheeple, get in line and wait for their free gov't handouts. The gov't won't violate citizens rights, and less folks will die. Katrina got you beat there sledge.

They'll evacuate, pray for the best, and rebuild. Not all, but most will heed the warnings.

Hope it weakens before landfall.

Twyacht we alsoo dont have the same population density as in New Orleans etc.
We do have a fair share of sheeple however I beleive as shown in the recent floods we also have and ability to put our shoulder to the wheel and get stuff done for ourselves. There was and still is an outstounding sense of mateship in australia second to no where else in the world. When the SHTF people here stand together, and get the job done.
Will be interesting to see this unfold and what stories unfold.

I echo the thoughts of others here. I have been to see the aftermath of a major hurricane (Hugo 1989) immediately after landfall and the term "war zone" is a very apt description. The behavior of people afterward was also fascinating. I don't know what the national authorities will do, but I hope they don't try to take what is left of their guns.

We like to be different.
Apparently they are getting knocked about a bit, no loss of life as yet, but it will surprise me if some one didnt evacuate - darwin award winners are everywhere unfortunately. Police/SES etc issued advised for over 2-3 days now that once it starts they will not be risking their lives for idiots that dont evacuate, given they had plenty of warning.
Gotta love the guys up their, a lot of them have taken shelter in larger buildings..............can you guess what type?

last I heard today there are NO  deaths of injuries

I have some Family up that way
My Uncle that lives in Townsville   was in the ACT with work  he went back there couple of days ago to check on the house and grab a few things  however went back to the ACT

speaking with another Uncle  his Bro lives there  and lost his back shed ( saved cleaning it out I guess ),  his neighbor lost there roof and the place across the road is now an empty block as they lost there house

the Media have been a joke.   to me they seem upset each time a disaster like this has not broken all the records.  really frustrates me


it has downgraded to a category 1 from 5 yesterday.


a lot of Australia's Sugar and banana's are grown up there and has been wiped out ( still too early to work out the final damage toll )
where is went though is where 1/3rd of our sugarcane growers are so they are saying 500mil's worth of crops are gone 

also the banana's  are set to triple in price up to $15 a kilo
Banana prices went from about $2 or $3 a kilo to more than $15 after Larry devastated the area in 2006. At the moment they're retailing around $3 or $4 a kilo,  so won't be long before they go up



good think though that everyone seems to be ok   even though some have lost everything,   and this time they seemed to be a lot more prepared.

once again insurance will be interesting one as heard some are talking about pulling out of the area and not insuring people any more.


with all the crap that QLD has gone though,   would make for a few good ideas for TBD  lol 
a few more people over hear have been talking about getting "bug-out kits"   with recent events
