Happy Texas Independence Day!!!-one day early
« on: March 01, 2008, 08:58:04 PM »
Since I likely won't be around the PC tomorrow, let me be the first to wish y'all a happy Texas Independence Day!!! (3/2/1836) Some grievences the fathers of Texas had against Mexico that are very relavent today considering this most important election year, straight from the Texas Declaration of Independence, simply an echo of the intentions of the founding fathers of our great country:

"It (Mexico) has demanded us to deliver up our arms, which are essential to our defence, the rightful property of free men, and formidable only to tyrannical governments..."

Let's hope our lawmakers know their history.  God bless Texas and the NRA! Get out and vote!

I tried very hard to attach  the quintessential Texas song to this reply. No dice. If you can find it, " the wagoneers, stout and high" is outstanding. The band, disbanded in 1988, too bad they were great. Also asleep at the wheel did a remake, but much more subdued. I hope someone with more internet savy, can find it and possibly post it. I could not even find the lyrics.. AAGH.

We  are a little different here, We are the only state that kicked another country's ass.
" The Pact, to defend, if not TO AVENGE '  Tarna the Tarachian.

If you were still a country it wouldn't be much to brag about, the only COUNTRY Mexico ever beat was France. :-X
But for a STATE to kick a countries butt, you got bragging rights. :o Have you ever seen one of those Colt Patersons marked "RTN" ? They were Issued to the Republic of Texas Navy. ;D

Here's something to take some of the wind out of your sails (back to that navy metaphor) Texas is NOT the only independent country to become a state. Most people forget that Hawaii was an independent kingdom until the Queen was overthrown in a coup de tat carried out by American planters who immediately asked to become a Protectorate of the US ( I forget the years but I think Madison was president so it was around 1817).
Also, a section of western new england called the NH land grants, was the subject of court battles and brawls, over whether it belonged to NH, Mass. ,or NY. during colonial times, The British Parliament disavowed Massachusetts claim, but that left NH and NY on the point of armed conflict until NH settlers seized control of the local court system. When the colonies declared their independence this area declared its own Independence as the Green Flag Republic and did not enter the union until the ratification of the constitution, Thats when it took the French name Vert - Mont(Green Mountain) The name was almost immediately shortened to what we know today "Vermont". Oh, the leader of those NH settlers who seized the courts,  Ethan Allen, the man who would seize NY's Fort Ticonderoga at the beginning of the Revolution.

Ya'll have a good time down yonder in Texas...I love the history, land and people.

Here in Oklahoma, anyone who hires an illegal is subject to felony....hence a mass exodus last October-November for Kansas & Texas.  Ya'll might want to think about a law something like that in Texas.

If ya'll don't do something, a few years from now your independence celebration might be from the USA and be in Spanish.

Just a different perspective, one I'm certain your aware of.
Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom.
It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.

Not to sound defeated, but the second Mexican revolution appears to be upon us.  Your legislators in OK stepped up to the plate where ours have not with respect to immigration law.

It's sure looking like the entire nation is wanting to commit suicide.  Teach your children well (sounds like a song), ya'll have a great history in Texas, we're doing the same here and I know others are across the nation.  If we as a nation are dumb enough to elect "The Abomination" or "Hillarious" there is going a real need for someone to lead us out stupidity in a decade or two....our history provides a great example of how to succeed in building a nation.
