I Was Just Thinking,...
« on: February 02, 2011, 05:59:30 PM »
An entire nation, mostly unarmed, throwing stones, bricks, Molotov Cocktails, is changing/shaking a gov't to its core. The spark is spreading. Let's keep the politics out of who's next to rule,...etc,....and just look at the masses taking to the streets, demanding the current admin. Get Lost.

So, my question(s) are:

Why are we so tolerant with the crap going on in our own country?
Are we a kinder, gentler nation?
More civilized?
We'll just let elections sort it out?

We bitch and moan, write letters and complain, vote, and do all we can as a "civilized" society to try to influence our politicians to listen.

And than we wait for the next legislative action, the next policy directive, next Executive Order,.....

There are over 23 Million registered hunters, and over 80 Million Gun owners, in the U.S. (and that's just the lawful one's)....cut those numbers in half, and we are larger than any standing army in the world, and yet we take it on the chin over and over.

They throw stones in Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen, Jordon, Algeria, etc,.. and are willing to put it ALL on the line, right or wrong for a cause.

While we anticipate the 2012 election and hope, and file our taxes.

This is not a post to incite anything, just to ask:

Couldn't we do more to affect change in our countries direction?  How can a map showing a majority of "red" get trampled by a minority of "blue"?

Just imagine, if Egypt were not for the most part disarmed....

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

While I agree with your line of thinking, Let me offer some thoughts on why we are not quite there.

Even with our depressed economy we still enjoy the highest standard of living of any nation in history.

We are not yet paying 50% of our entire income for basic food stuffs.

So FAR the federal government is still sending tax refund CHECKS, and not I.O.U.'s  However I can see that being a catalyst for viloence if it happens. (Which I see as a possibility)

Again, I agree with your thinking, and am starting to wonder if the 80 million gun owners in the country have any clue what the second amendment actually means. Not mention that bit about it being the responsibility of the people to revolt and hrow off an oppressive government. Obviously the Egyptions get it.
I am a member of my nation's chosen soldiery.
God grant that I may not be found wanting,
that I will not fail this sacred trust.

Most don't get it, they're sheep. Even Veteran's, they did what they were told. When they were told go here, stand there, they went and they stood, when they were told go there and kill these people, they went and killed.
But they no longer have the initiative to decide, "He needs killing" and go do it.
It has been bred out of us. The population is so cowed that they even take orders from inanimate objects.
That lack of initiative is why Cops are no longer needed to direct traffic, the sheeple will obey a light.

Right, Tom.  Maybe that's why only 2000 people showed up for the 2nd Amendment March in D.C. last April 19th.

Any one who does have that type of initiative is weeded out of society as a "Mad dog" or "Vigilante". While I will agree that some, like that nut case in Tuscon, or Cho, at Va. Tech. are "a menace to society", what about the father who killed the guy who molested his son ? Does he deserve the life sentence he got, or a medal ? At most they should have told him "Don't do that again" and let him go.

I think the Egyptian military had a lot to do with this in that they didn't take out the protestors.  If they had cracked down like the Chinese did in Tiananmen Square, this would not have happened.  Or, at least, not as easily.

Ulmas has a point. Look at the attempted coup against Gorby in Russia. The Army can exert as much pressure by not shooting as they can by mowing down the opposition.
