I've always considered myself a normal kind of guy, politically conservative, socially kind of liberal, maybe a little (a lot) to the side of mainstream. Working in our basement shop today, late morning I decided to take a break from a tedious cabinet project and watch fifteen minutes of television. Turned on the TV and Jerry Springer was on. I've never seen the show before, but have seen the promos and heard a little about it. Starts out with some young guy standing there without his shirt on, why he didn't have his shirt on, I haven't a clue. Story is he's living with his girl friend while still married to his wife, telling them both he loves them. Okay, nothing new here. He's also dating his cousin, who can't figure out if she's straight or lesbian. Okay, from what I'd heard that's what the show is all about. Then there's the guy whose missing the lower part of his body, from the waist down, walking on his hands, wandering around the set, and the women in the audience who are lifting their blouses, exposing themselves to the camera (blurred out) and audience. Then people from the audience start coming up on stage dancing, and there's the guy wearing only his underwear...
It's like a scene out of a bad “end of the world” sci-fi movie.
For years now, I've gone with the theory “if you can't solve it with five, what makes you think you can solve it with fifteen”, and for the “The end of the world as we know it” people, I just couldn't see it.
Maybe I've been wrong, maybe I need a bigger gun.
