Returning from Florida tomorrow after taking care of dad's things.. Been outside WiFi coverage all week. Have tried to keep up via Droid, but hasn't been easy.
I've missed some of the posts and I KNOW you all missed my expert and definitive answers, world shattering commentaries, and sharp political analysis. But be forewarned starting this weekend I'll be back in full swing. If there was any posts in particular I should have responded to, please let me know.
Didn't get to stop by Shoot Straight in Tampa, it was late tonight when we passed through. BUMMER. I did take extra guns and ammo. Not sure why, but with all the uncertainty, I just didn't want to travel so far from the Chateu San Susci with just a G23 and 24 rounds of ammo. Wife asked how much did I bring. Heck, just a 357 with 200 rounds and a 9mm with 300. Not much.
The probate court, the attorneys and the real estate people all spent great efforts in telling us what we could NOT do. That doesn't sit well with my sister or I and she's not shy one bit about saying so. (Think the Mattie Ross character in True Grit.) I'm more Michael Corleon --- or so I'd like to think.
Anyway after splainin' a few things we pretty much got what we wanted. Car sold, house on the market, full control of his finances by the end of next week. The real estate agents and attorneys were easy. "Either help us or we get somebody else." Only had to call in a few favors. I did have to laugh though, cause I called one guy who had profusely volunteered to do whatever to pay the family back for all of Dad's assistance to him over the years. You could here him swallow real hard when I called him Tuesday and reminded him of his offer. I only need a small favor......... right out of the Godfather movie. Nobody's legs were broke or anything, though I am mulling over what to do about the attending physician. Not that he did anything wrong with his treatment of dad, but he screwed the pooch on the Death Certificate ---- 3 times. Delayed us getting the certified copy by 2 days. Maybe just a letter to his boss, who is also indebted to "the family"

I'm blessed dad had so many friends down here willing to help. Plus my sister, with whom I have never been very close, but we came together and were of like mind about what we wanted. We were like a tag team when we met with officials.
Thank you everyone for your good wishes and prayers. In a couple of weeks I'm going to post a memorial to dad with some of his war stories and pictures I have found. I knew he had earned a pilots license in the service and had wings, but I discovered he also had qualified as a "radio man" on a flight crew. [Thank you Lord for the assignments you gave him, 'cause he could have been flying bombing missions over Germany.......what was he thinking?]
