P90

Picked up a Ruger P90 in a trade this week, and had it at the range today. It's not pretty to look at, but shoots great. I traded a CZ52 with some ammo for it, and we both think we got the best end of the deal.

As I recall, the P90's are damn tough, reliable, easy to maintain, and combat accurate.  It's still prettier than a Glock or Springfield XD...

Did you have your (former CZ52) in 9mm? I think originally it was 7.62 x 25, or a Makarov 9 x 18...But a barrel swap was all it needed.

Keepin' it Ruger, is still a good thing.

My brother got one used about 10 years ago (I believe it was the first pistol in the family).  It's a pretty good shooter.  His came with aftermarket grips which improved the looks even more.  My only complaint is it's a little larger than what I've become accustomed to, but that's a personal problem.

And tw, I think my 19 is a very pretty gun.  The 26, not so much.

One of the most accurate .45s I ever owned was a P90.  We just sold the last new one we had at work, and the boss can't get anymore.  Wish Ruger would have kept making them.  Excellent guns.

When both people in a trade feel they got the better deal in a trade, that's a pretty great trade.

The Ruger autos are pretty bulky, but they are tough and reliable. My P89 has got the Hogue grips and they do something to make it feel less like a block.

I hear people say Rugers autos "feel like a brick" all the time.  The same people will salivate over a Glock or HK.   I work in a gun shop, and get to handle all types of handguns.  To my hand, the P series Rugers feel no bigger than a Glock and most HKs.  And the SR9s are smaller than any Glock I ever felt, and most HKs, Sigs, etc.  But, that is why they make different guns, for different people.

I think people refer to the "P" series as bricks because of the slide design. These pistols were never made to be carried concealed. They were designed from the very beginning to ride in a service holster on your hip. Acurate as hell. I think I could get a sight picture, turn my head, empty the magazine, and put every shot in the 10 ring. The P89 was the same way with 9MM.

I have a very well used P90 myself and I wont sell it. The gun has never failed to work regardless the crap Ive fed it. Ruger didnt pride itself on making a pretty gun but took bulit like a tank to another level.

TW. The CZ52 was originally in 7.62 X25. .
I remember because a guy at work had one he was showing off. It was the first time I had seen that little bottleneck cartridge and I did not think it was big enough to have much oomph.
It didn't look like it would hold enough powder.
Just goes to show, looks can be deceptive

The 7.62x25 is ballisticly similair to the 32 Mag. There are aftermarket parts to convert the CZ52 to 9mm Para (9x19) or 9mm Largo (9x23). 9x19 conversion requires some light gunsmithing to make the pistol operation consistant. I tried it with an earlier CZ that I owned, but had feeding problems with 9x19.
