Maggie and I hit the Valley Forge Gun show this past saturday. She had never been to a show, so it was kinda fun although she's not built for pushing her way through the crowds. It was CROW-DED!!
We got some little stuff, cleaning stuff...I pickup up some large pistol primers and 1000 lead 200gr SWC 45s- $72 for the thousand...I didn't think that was bad. (A dealer called "Better Bullets) $50 for 1000 primers.
Handled a High Point 45 rifle, but with the old lady there it didn't fly. I'm not 100% on it yet either. Price was about $ 275. I was looking for a lever gun in357 and only found one Winchester for about $1200 and a Henry Big Boy for $611, but I'm not partial to the "tube-load". Saw a BUNCH of black rifles...every kind you can think of.
Also got to handle some handguns I've been lusting after. I was also able to handle some of that new stuff. RIA 45s and the Citadel 45s. they feel similar. The Citadel feels pretty good and it's acceptable in fit and finish. Tight as hell though...really stiff.
I also got to handle both the Colt Defender and Colt New agent. I was all about the stainless defender and I DO like it. Feels good in the hand. However, the New Agent is significantly lighter. Considering the fact that 99.99 if not 100% of the time you're going to be carrying the piece, not shooting in an emergency, I might like the new agent better just for the weight. Otherwise they feel pretty similar.
Maggie took a liking to a couple of one and two shot miniature things...I think they were antique. That, and the biggest S&W Model 29 I've ever seen...must have had a ten inch barrel. They guy was chuckling when he handed it to her. He said, "What are you gonna do with that thing?" She said, "Put a couple of big holes in something". She cleared it, checked it all out and pronounced it "in need of lubrication because the cylinder didn't spin enough for for me". The guy looked at her funny and I told him that her revolvers have had the hell fired out of them and you could take any one of them, drop it in his case, and you couldn't pick it out from his stuff except for the tag.
There were many FULL crates of mosin nagants going for about $119. They were all pretty cleaned up. They keep selling them like that and that cheap though, and the ammo will eventually go through the roof.
We hung in there as long as we could- Maggie is very slight and she was getting bumped around a bit and I was just getting tired of everyone ELSE'S stank...so we cut out after about 1-1/2 hours. It was worth it though. Next time I'll have money I hope.
On the guns I saw high prices and pretty decent prices. The ammo and other stuff I thought was decently priced. A real mixed bag on pricing.
