Just curious.  How many people believe Obama was "elected" our President?

Do you think the electoral process as we believe it exists is the reason Obama is our President today?  You go to the poll, place your vote along with everyone else, and the person with the most citizens votes is elected our President.  Is that how he got in office?

Was the election just an elaborate show to pacify the citizens when businessmen behind the scenes had actually bought and paid for their figurehead long before inauguration day?

Whatever the theory.  And your opinion of the president aside.  Could your vote really have effected who was elected?

Yes I do. This was seen in the 2010 Midterm elections.

The process has degenerated into a media dominated Beauty contest where the one who spends the most wins.
Obama spent more money buying the White House than any 3 candidates in history.
The reason Buzzcut is wrong is because statistics show that traditionally Democratic groups such as the young and minorities ignore mid term elections and only turn out for Presidential elections. Secondly, statistics show that the opposition party always does better in midterms. The 2010 results were a foregone conclusion, the only question was scale.

There is little doubt that corruption exists in our electoral system.  There is no nation wide standard of ballots, or ballot counting, with each state having jurisdiction over the process.  Furthermore, with the politically correct laws enacted in the past few years to make it easier for the so-called "disenfranchised" to vote, fraud can run rampant.

Where I live, in Oregon, we have "vote by mail."  In many locations there is no ID or proof of residency required, so there is much fraud that takes place here.  For those who do not have faith in the mail, or for the "last minute" voters, each county sets up "ballot drop off" sites.  The largest county, Multnomah (Portland), can always be counted on to make a last minute surge for the Democrat candidates.  For some reason, theirs is always the last county to release their vote totals.

There is ample anecdotal evidence of literally bus loads of homeless, SEIU / ACORN folks, students and illegal aliens moving from ballot drop off site to ballot drop off site within the county.  Somehow, Republicans never seem to be able to win in  the Portland and Eugene (largest population regions) areas.  Granted, Portland is well known as a bastion of liberal activism with socialist elected officials calling the shots.  I know there are a few Conservatives living there, but they don't seem to count for much.  They are the truly disenfranchised voters.  The only Republican, or conservative candidates who manage to win, are in the local races in rural and other out-lying areas.   By law, the state Attorney General can not investigate fraud on their own.  In what is known as a complaint driven system, they can only investigate after the election and only on specific complaints.  Of course, the complaints are always found to be not valid.

The state legislature is now in the process of considering vote by phone, and vote by Internet laws.  I'm certain such a system would be even more corrupt than our present one.

I got this at Portland city hall.  They are very proud of their reputation.

I believe the system will be destroyed by the people who take more then they contribute. Between the welfare crowd, Unions and all level of Government employees with BS jobs voting for more benefits how can our system survive?  We don't need fake results or pretend elections.

The system does work, but safegaurds must be in place. In Texas, our legislature just sent a voter ID bill to the guv for signiture. It requires a state issued picture ID (state issued IDs are free) to vote. Many states are looking at or enacting "Proof of Citizenship" laws for candidates to run in primaries. If you're down on the "system", what are you going to replace it with? Democracy means you become a slave to whatever area has the most voters. No mater what you think, our system is better than anywhere else in the world.

The electorial College ONLY picks the President. He's not a king, there are a lot of reps and senators that can stop him. And the most votes pick them.

Election results may be very different when the Unregistered Democrats (illegal aliens) are denied the vote.

If we don't like the Electoral College then convince your congresscritters to change it!  It only takes 38 states.....

We can't have it both ways.  Remember if Gore had only won his home state, Florida wouldn't have mattered and the entire world would have been different.

As to ID cards, this past midterm, I was required to show an ID in order to cast my ballot.  That was a first for me at least from what I remember.  I'd voted in this town for George HW Bush in 92 but I don't recall showing ID.

Dittoes to Timothy.
Look, it is a beauty contest, but the system works. By any objective standard, Gore should have won in a landslide. His admin brought us peace and prosperity, but people were upset about Monica (the world's most dangerous woman as she brought down two Speakers of  the House, a President and a sitting VP. Hell, we could have saved a lot llot of money on nukes and invested in chubby jewish girls from So. Cal. and won the Cold War quicker ;D). Likewise McCain was beaten by a rookie despite, or because, of having the incumbent party AND a prior administration working for him. The system works. Its the voters I worry about. :-X
