.38 Sp Senior moment
« on: April 11, 2011, 07:09:52 PM »
Some where back in the grey mater I recall that either heavy weight +P or light weight +p rounds can have a slight tendency to unseat in a J frame light weight revolver.
Thus blocking the cylinder from rotating.

Can some one please refresh one old guys memory on this subject.

Thanks all.

The only thing I could find was a warning on some S&W barrels about using bullets under 120gr.

Possible explantions were the increased surface area found in the longer bullets creating more drag - but I think that was 357 mag. If I was reloading for one I would use a HEAVY crimp.

Call the company that made the revolver and ask them.
You can say lots of bad things about pedophiles; but at least they drive slowly past schools.

I never heard of it with little calibers like .38 .
Only in thumpers like .44 mag and 454, and then it was a matter of the crimp.
I doubt it will be a problem.

I would personally not shoot 38 +P in a light wieght gun... I like my wrists too much.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

OK all thanks. It may be the larger calibers I am thinking of.
TAB - I don't notice the +P much more than it "feels hotter" but physical pain is not present.
