Traditions Single Actions
« on: April 19, 2011, 06:32:52 PM »
I'm looking at picking up just a cheap Tradition's SA in .45 for the heck of it. Maybe it's all the excitement of going to Lincoln County while I'm home in NM in a few weeks. Anyway, I don't know much about them except that they are typically cheap. Any thoughts? I don't intend to go compete or carry it just take it out and spit some lead (probably cowboy loads since right now I can get them pretty cheap). And secondly is there a better alternative to get a SAA pattern gun on the cheap? And lastly instead of posting a want in the other forum does anyone have something like this they interested in getting rid of? Just a thought.

I am not sure where the Traditions are made, but most of their BP guns are made in Spain.  I would go for a Uberti, if I was wanting a reasonably priced SAA clone.  They are well made, and usually reasonably priced, especially if you can find a used one.

Don't know about the Traditions products but a buddy at the range has an EAA Bounty Hunter in .45 and loves it. He acknowledges that it isn't a gun he would use for SASS competions but says it has been everything he could ask for in a plinker/woods gun. He got his for $125 from some guy who needed cash fast(I hate that I'm never the guy that finds those deals) but he says you can get them new for about $350-$375

Hi;

     I do not know how a traditions will work out for you, however I have a uberti for the past 8 years and have nothing good to say about it. My gunsmith neighbor replaced a spring in it twice, after the 2nd time he told me in a nice way not to bring that POS back. When I first reordered a replacement spring for it the lady told me they ship them in packs of 3 and in time I would need them. The weapon has another spring broken and I just have it in the gun safe. In time I may replace that spring with the 3rd and last one that I have.

     My lesson learned was that I bought too hastily and am now paying for it. If you buy cheap - be prepared to get cheap. Check out the cowboy section at the bottom of the main page and ask people there.

I guess that just goes to show that any company can make a lemon.  I have owned many Uberti's and work in a gun shop where we sell them.  Most folks seem pretty happy with them, as I have been.  As they are copies of the old Colt SAA, and use flat springs, they will indeed break with use, as did the Colt.  They are quite simple to replace.  That is why Ruger made the Blackhawk, and later the Vaquero, with unbreakable piano wire coil springs.

go to a gun show and try and find a nice used 4 inch Ruger blackhawk. They arent difficult to find in good shape for the 300 dollar range.

I have this brainstorm to find one of those older versions that came with an additional 45 acp cylinder. It went for $350 five min before I got to the table.

If I had one of those bad boys I wouldnt hesitate to carry it concealed in a low stress situation.

recently purchased a Heritage (right price) and am impressed with the feel. haven't gotten to the range with her yet, but for under 300.00 dollars I'm happy so far. will let you know how she shoots in a few days. (when i get back to the states)
