Bush Rides Mountain Bike to Honor Veterans

Beginning April 25, former president George W. Bush will host a three-day 100-kilometer mountain bike ride in Big Bend Ranch State Park, Texas.

The event, named "Warrior 100," will honor wounded veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan.

"I'll be riding across the deserts of Texas with wounded warriors to show the unbelievable character of our men and women in uniform. It's a 100-kilometer ride in the desert, and it's not a leisurely ride; it's a ride to herald people who were dealt a severe blow and said, 'I'm not going to let it tear me down'," said Bush in a statement released by his office.

Among those riding alongside the former president include Sergeant First Class Dillon Behr, USA (Ret.) of Arlington, Va.

It's tough country out there. Very beautiful once you learn to appreciate stark (think cresesote bushes and sand). Still, good for W. on this one.

So FQ, What did YOUR guy do to honor veterans ?
Oh yeah, He blew off the surviving CMH winners at his inauguration, and was so clueless that he didn't even salute the one he presented.
What a POS.

Well, yeah...he did blow it there.   But remember in one speech he gave he did mention the Brave Corpsemen.

What strikes me from the photos is the feeling I get that the Former President and Commander-In-Chief and the Men are relating as equals.  I sense strong respect going both ways.  No pretense, no show.

Good job, W.

What strikes me from the photos is the feeling I get that the Ex-President, Ex-Commander-In-Chief and the Men are relating as equals.  I sense strong respect going both ways.  No pretense, no show.

Good job, W.

One point Solus - Get the X out!  Once President always President unless stripped of the office.  You can call the former, but never Ex.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

You are correct.

But what a dismal heritage for today's office holder.

+1

That was what struck me when I first read the article. I actually read it on Bush's facebook page and had to do several searches to find an actual article....I guess because he keeps much of his stuff low-key.

Bush may have made his mistakes, but there was never a question in my mind of his loyalty and respect for our nation's troops.
That was the main reason I even bothered to post it here....not to try to inflate opinions of Bush....just to show the humble, human side of a man......that is all.   ;)
