Just when you think anything involving the Senate can't get any more senseless...

The top staffer for the Senate Indian Affairs Committee is objecting to the U.S. military's use of the code name "Geronimo" for Osama bin Laden during the raid that killed the al-Qaida leader.
Loretta Tuell, staff director and chief counsel for the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, said Tuesday it was inappropriate to link Geronimo, whom she called "one of the greatest Native American heroes," with one of the most hated enemies of the United States.
These inappropriate uses of Native American icons and cultures are prevalent throughout our society, and the impacts to Native and non-Native children are devastating," Tuell said.


"It's another attempt to label Native Americans as terrorists," said Paula Antoine of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in South Dakota.

You know...so it's not so devastating to the children.

Tell her that " Head Sand Nigger In Charge" was already vetoed and ' THE Raghead" and "Chief Camel Jockey" are copyrighted. ;D ::) Will these PC folks grow the F up?

If thats true than you either live in a truly blessed state or vote a lot of write-ins. In all the states I've lived in, the major party candidates were always the lesser of two evils. Some surprised me pleasantly, but most have dissapointed me.

Don't know about anyone else, but to me, using Geronimo's name for this mission did nothing but point out his role as a respected warrior in this country.  

It surely did not imply he was any kind of terrorist, but rather, that he was the kind of warrior we would choose to defend our country against terrorists.

Same goes for naming sports teams with Native American references.  No one picks a name they feel is derogatory for their team.  On the contrary, they pick a name they think embodies the fierceness and victorious aspects of their team.

Some times the caricatures of the mascots are not in good taste and, no doubt, the team franchise and name are commercialized, but the choice of the name is never guided by derogatory intent.

I didn't say my guy (or Gal, ) always won,Voting your beliefs is more important than guessing who will be most popular.

Unfortunately that is what our electoral system has become. It's now nothing more than American Idol, only with serious and detrimental consequences for the nation. That's how BHO got elected. All you have to do to win is promise the farm to everyone, and outspend your opponent.
