What's with the green dot on the left side? Some sticker?
Glad you like the gun.

You nailed it kmitch200. All my Rugers have come from the factory with one. I have been told they are color coded inspection stickers. You can get them off without difficulty, I just leave them on for some ruger character ;)

Thanks for the range report. I am off to a gun show at Birch Run, MI this weekend. I will be looking for the Ruger 1911.
Good job, thanks again.

I really want them to release a standard "GI" version. I know it isnt hard to change the Mainspring Housing to arched, which I like, but I also just like the plain Jane slab side. I know now the 1911 standard is what they came out with. Basically the original Kimber, but I would really like it if they would introduce one with out the bells and whistles also.
Did we win???

Lets hope we don't have to wit to long for some varients Ksail. Not sure what Rugers plans are for a basic GI model, but I think I will get one of each of whatever they decide to produce.

Up date. I went to the gun show at Birch Run last week Saturday and bought a Ruger 1911 from Randy's.  I stopped and asked if they had seen any. The person I was talking to said they just got one in that day. He showed it to me. I asked some questions as the crowd gathered. I asked to see the other one -- they had two. I tried the trigger on the second one which felt the same as the first -- not as good as my Gold Cup, but ok, with some creep and then a very nice let off. I said I would take the second one. The guy next to me took the other one. $699.95 - I have no idea why then didn't just say $700, but this way they could say $100 under retail.

I shot it this week with GI ball ammo. All went well until I had a 2 failures to feed on the last shot using some very old milspec magazines which have given me trouble before. I just wanted to see if they would work in the Ruger and got my answer. All went well with Ruger and Colt magazines, and several of the other milspec stuff I have had for at least 40 years. The 2 that failed are probably due for some maintenance -- I would hate to just throw them out after using them for so long. BTW I have plenty more. Send ammo so that I can try the rest out. ;)

At the club league match today. I talked to a man who had been at Randy's in Bad Ax the same day as the show. Randy's had two of the new Ruger SC9s. He bought one. It seems that the 1911s went to the show and the SC9s stayed at the store.

Bottom line is I am glad I bought the Ruger SR1911. It is a good one.

I'll post an update as well. I did go ahead and use the SR1911 in the Ohio Sectional Match. Sights wont be in until next week, so I just sharpie markered the rear sight and went without the fiber optic front. Ran great in the 200+ round count match and I was very happy with its performance until the second to last stage.... Chrono. There I found out that the Ruger, unlike a Kimber Custom 2 will not fit in the box with Wilson 47DE mags. Welcome to open..... Doh! :o Shooting an 8 round mag with iron sights in open does not competative make you. Didn't come in last in that Division, but I wont be using this in anything other than a club match until I get some Tripp mags in .45.

Glad she worked well, not so glad the sights are as tall as they are.

HI, new here but not to Rugers for over 30 years now.

I think the new .45 is what every Ruger is:

Reliable to a fault, as there will eventually be one load it doesn't digest.

Economical, or at least in comparison to most quality 1911s out there.

I only wish it were:

A black or in blue.

B: in .38 Super or 9mm.

C. Commander or even better yet, CCO sized.

Even if I'm a fan of Dan Wessons, I see Ruger selling a bunch of these!

Thanks,

KEV

Ruger is really putting a dent in my bank account this year.   First with the Gunsite Scout and now this...

Thanks for the report.  It sure makes it hard to wait  patiently for mine to arrive though...

I really liked this pistol at the NRA show. If I were designing a 1911 from the ground-up, the SR1911 is pretty close. The only change I'd make is an arched mainspring housing and 10mm chambering. I know HERESY! But I'm not much of a .45 ACP fan. Maybe in the future I'll get my perfect SR1911.
