Well, lets see, Go back on the Gold standard ? There isn't enough gold and Silver in existence to cover the amount of currency currently in US circulation, 5 minutes of simple math will show that.
Isolationism ? when half our raw materials come from other countries ? That's a real bright idea.
He wanted to try Bin Laden, not kill him ? Any one with half a brain saw how that worked with Khalid Sheik Mohammad .
Like I said, Ron Paul and his followers are idiots.
Of the faults you have listed, Ron Paul's biggest is his view on Bin Laden. He lost sight of the objective which was to kill the bastard and not bring him to justice for the whole world to see. Had he been president, and followed that thinking, Bin Laden might still be wasting oxygen.
The gold standard. While there is not enough gold to to do the job due to the great number of US Dollars in circulation, lack of a standard, gold or otherwise, is a strong contributor to that problem. While the gold standard might not be a workable solution, at least Ron Paul has the problem as a priority and is looking for a solution. As president, he would come to that realization, even if only after the accountants showed him the adding machine tape, and would work towards an alternative solution to the problem.
Isolationism is a matter of degree. At one extreme we might have closing our borders, all our embassies, bringing all troops and diplomats home, circling the wagons and making due with what we have from sea to shining sea.
At the other extreme, total non-isolationism, we might have a plan for total world conquest where we no one every has to press a button for English cause there is no other option.
A president, no matter which one of these he might subscribe to, will never be able to achieve either of those objectives.
However, something like pulling all American troops home except for those needed for defense of American Real Estate, and here would be included military bases we have acquired through treaty, like Gitmo, and should have kept like the Panama Canal Zone, that are necessary for us to field a strong military presence should it be needed.
Stopping all foreign aid, unless in payment under contract for something of equal value like those military bases.
Establishing as many foreign embassies as we feel we need and where we can to allow us to affect foreign relations through economic means.
Ron Paul would be faced with compromise on his Isolation views.
But them he would bring a whole lot of small government and capitalistic goodness along with him.
If he is 80% right and the other 20% seems like a deal breaker, I'd take him. Much of that 20% could be compromised into something better and what can't won't fly.
I don't see as much as I like about Ron Paul in any of the other candidates.
