Just be sure you do the hug with your carry side arm low around the person you are hugging.  That will leave them hugging you up around your shoulder on that side.  Then you just have to position your body so your weapon does not press against them.

It is awkward sometimes going for the low hug, but change your approach and do preemptive hugs so that you are the initiator and come at them with your carry side arm low.

Of course, you will get the bad rep of being the one who is always wanting to hug.

Not much for man hugs, but I'll never turn down a friendly hug and kiss from a lady.

Keep the strong side a little back and go for it. Never had a problem with any pistol in a IWB holster.

I met a female friend  for coffee last week and she gave me some lip about not carrying my pistol. When I told her I was she laughed and said she need to do a better job of frisking me. She did! ;D

Anyone I'm going to hug knows that I'm probably armed.  Wife's elderly auntie found my 1911 once and didn't even ask what it was.  Typical for the sheep we have here in the northeast.

I don't visit people that won't allow me to enter their house armed whether that's a sidearm or a knife of some kind and I'm always armed with something.

Probably true.  We've had some lengthy discussions over the years.  She's just old school democrat, not the atypical lefty that is so prevalent these days.  She's going on 87 and still walks most everywhere she needs to go and still works about 20 hours a week.

How do you hug people?

I personal carry a firearm owb on my right side.  And my grandma found my sidearm.  I'm kind of an odd ball in my family now.  I didn't grow up in a traditional hunting family.  My family is very touchy feel-ie hence they lean to the liberal side, thus lots of hugging. 

Just wondering how you guys deal with this?

People see and feel what they expect to see and feel. 99% won't notice. Of those who do, most won't automatically know what it is, so you can change the subject. "Hey look, a badger!" or "Is that Brangelina?" or even "Do you smell smoke?" are usually effective at redirecting their attention from the mysterious lump on your side.

most of the old school democrats are good people and tipical "get it" when it comes to econ and social programs.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.
