Not a Hater, but what THE HELL is up with the GOP?
« on: May 27, 2011, 07:46:47 PM »
Okay, I'm a rational guy. I lean libertarian and tend to vote for pragmatists. I have said some harsh things about W and even voted for (mumble, mumble) :-[
Yet, as a professional at politics, speaking purely objectively, I see BO as the wounded wildabeast seperated from the herd. The lions should be closing in. And yet.....the GOP can't seem to even  muster a half decent hyena. The latest fiasco putting the Donald at the top of polls speaks volumes. This week? The latest CNN poll (and yes, its a solid poll, no claims of bias, they hire good stats guys) shows the top three GOP candidates among Republicans and Indepentants as being;  (1) Rudy (yes you read that right) Giuliani, (2) Mitt "multiple choice" Rommney and (3) Sarah Palin, as being tied for first place in the GOP field at between 13-16 points each. Now look, I'm looking at this lineup as a bookie, not a fan. This is cold, hard, cash money realism, zero sentiment. And I have to say WTF?  Are these three bozos the best the GOP can do against what by any objective definition is a failed Presidency? I mean for God's sake, its like going into the Superbowl against the Cleavland Browns and the best the GOP can muster is the Detroit Lions? Can some Republican out there explain this to me, because, frankly, this just seems sad. ???

You really are a wanker, aren't you? CNN? No bias? ? ?

You don't think for one second CNN set this poll up so the ones easiest for bho to beat would come out on top? With all of your vaunted PolySci experience, do you want us to believe that CNN won't do something like that?

Personally, I can do without Ruddy and Mitt even being in the race, RINOs that they are. Sarah, OTOH, is a great lightening rod, and can be readily used to make points - much like The Hair did - while the real candidates work on winning.

My pessimistic side says it ain't even worth the effort, this country has been sold out, and we need to be planning America 2.0 and moving toward it.

FQ, you're a forty something Poly Sci professor.

You ain't a professional at shit!  When you've been doing something for thirty or forty years, I'll consider you a professional.  Until then, you're just a player.

IMHO....

Path, lets take politics aside for a moment. CNN, like all pollsters has an agenda. Rasmussen, WSJ, CBS etc. BUT......the bias is in the question, not the result. You can skew the question, but if you fudge the data you're done. In this case it was just mentioning names. At this point few folks are paying attention and it means little. What worries me are that solid heavy hitters aren't out there. BO should be on the ropes. He isn't. Where is a field of three or four guys who can each carry the ball for the GOp? They SHOULD be there. WTF happened?

Patience, my boy.  When has there ever been someone that was the obvious front runner this far out?  Favorites come and go.  The public is fickle and polls are but a snap shot of "now."  Look at how the process works and let it do it's stuff.  The MSM/LSM and all of the pundits (left and right) are trying to make a living and that means stirring the pot.  Attention spans are short.  Looks at the long game.

P.S.  Romney shot himself in the foot by endorsing ethanol subsidies.  He's toast.  Just like Newt. The Hermanator looks better every day.  How's a Cain-West ticket sound?  JMHO.

Will Do Bill, thanks!

Trust me, FQ has a thick skin.  He constantly poops where he eats and comes back for more.  He knows more about politics than most folks, it's just the wrong kind of politics....Georgetown education on the governments dime.  If he showed up on my doorstep tomorrow, he'd get a cold beer, a shot of 12 year old scotch and a 2" thick strip steak grilled to perfection!

All in the good will of a fellow American!

Cue the Discovery Channel voice....
"Sadly, there can be but one conclusion."

I so wish that comes true in '12!
Who cares what a poll says about 3 people who haven't even declared their desire to run for office?
It might mean something in June of 2012, but now? Totally meaningless.
Remember when Hitlery was the big front runner according to the polls? It don't mean diddley.

Like Ichi said:

Its true, Newt was actually looking ok up until the Arnie/Edwards stuff. Now his personal baggage is a DQ when it wasn't two weeks ago. Herman Cain I like, but no one has dug through his background yet. Being human, he's probably done something stupid, its just luck as to whether its something the public is willing to forgive at any given moment.  As to Pawlenty? Sometimes boring and competant works like with Bush in 1988, sometimes it doesn't like with Gore in 2000.  The one thing I hope America has learned from BO (God knows I did) is that we need more than a good speech and a vision. We want competance, a solid manger. Where's Ike when you need him?
FQ13 who will volunteeer for Bush (the elder) in 2012 ;D :'(

While FQ may be a politically naive indoctrinated kool-ade drinker he has a point here.
Rasmussen also shows Romney as leading, and Newt with a strong showing.
My opinion is that the Republican leadership will again work to throw the election to BO in order to show those uppitty TEA party people who runs the Party. Lets face it, most Rep. support in the last election came when Sarah Palin got picked for VP. Prior to that McCain ran a campaign described as lackluster at best.  Even FQ ( being a sexist Sarah hater ) has to admit that the campaign gained energy at that point and that Palin was attacked by McCain's staff nearly as often as by the Dems.
The major fear of the Rep. leadership, is that once "We the People" have disposed of the Socialists and communists of the Democratic Party, we are going to look carefully at the Republican Party and go RINO hunting.
The survival of most Rep. leaders depends on putting you" little people" (rabble ) back in your place.
