I traded my Chinese motor scooter away to the head of my HOA's yard crew in exchange for fixing my sprinklers. It was a fair trade, as the the scooter sucks as bad as the plumbing in the lawn.  Regardless, he gave me a bottle of vodka in thanks. Now, I hate vodka. I like rum, scotch, gin, tequila and Cognac, but not vodka. However, my lawn guy is Jamaican. When I was about to refuse the bottle he said, "Mon ya must try ta the Moscow mule".  "What?" says I.  He explained it was a combination of Jamaican ginger beer (my favorite soft drink as its not sweet but has a serious ginger bite)and here its poured over ice with vodka and a squeeze of lime. Damned if it isn't the best warm weather sun downer ever. It beats a G@T, Margarita or Mojito. This thing rocks. Recipe is : 2oz good vodka, ice, good ginger beer (I prefer JCS country style, but whatever you can get, and ginger ale is NOT a substitute) mixed and stirred. Seriously, this is the perfect summer cocktail. It was popular in the 1940s and should be popular again. Spice, a little citrus tang and a little kick. Try it, you'll like it.FWIW.

Ginger beer RAWKS!  It could only get better with vodka in it.

When I was in Singapore 30-years ago, they had a similar drink made with Scotch and ginger beer over rocks.  I don't remember what it was called, but like the Moscow Mule, it was an excellent sundowner on a warm night.

And, how could anyone not like vodka?  It's virtually without flavor and improves almost every drink it's added to.

yeah..don't understand that one either.   And FQ has Gin on his Like List....must be abnormal taste buds  ;D ;D

Never liked Gin....  A couple I met years ago in the Army told me the way to develop a taste for gin was to wait for a hot summer day, drink half a can of beer and refill the can with gin.  raved about it.  I've never tried it

Don't understand the Rum.... Run and  Vodka are my tops.

Scotch you have to sneak up on....Irish Whiskey helps develop a taste for it...

Gonna have to give the Mule a try.

Gin tastes like licking the bottom of somebody's foot.

Vodka is in most every good hot weather drink though!  :-\  Gotta like it!   ;D

And without fail, a well mixed Captain and Coke on ice hits the spot any day!  Mmmmmmm!!!  I likes sugar!  ;)

I was young and things went very, very, badly wrong. I still shudder a bit at the smell of straight vodka (Note to board members, playing a Red Dawn drinking game with frozen Stoli is not as cool as it sounds, too many Russians die. :P ;D). But, with the right mixers vodka works.

I have nightmares of Aftershock. I swear there was never a party where a girl didn't show up with a bottle and wanting help getting to the crystals.......I feel sick just thinking about it.

Note for the "Do with what you have" crowd :
You can NOT make a screwdriver with Vodka and Tang.
Well, actually you can but you will regret it .   ;D
